I know one single person who bought a very first gen model S and had to have his battery replaced. All the doom and gloom naysayers OT baws prognostications about batteries needing to be replaced after a few years just aren't materializing.

A few quotes for you EV haters to enjoy...

"Tesla’s batteries are designed to outlast the body of the car itself. This means they should retain usable driving capacity well past 500,000 miles."

"Tesla covers manufacturing defects regarding the high voltage battery and associated equipment for 8 years and 150,000 miles (whichever comes first). This means that if a part fails, such as a battery cell or a high voltage cable, Tesla will cover the parts, labor, and other expenses surrounding the repair"

I haven't heard of too many issues. Some complaints about degraded range over time but that's it.

There's a reason why Tesla has the best selling car in the world. It's a high quality vehicle.

Teslas are great, but all of the other EVs are gigantic piles of shite.

To be fair, you’ve both shared anecdotes and zero statistics.

Don't kid yourself. It's a terrible quality vehicle from a fit and finish perspective. They have been plagued with issues straight out of the factory. The most notorious is panel gaps and screens with dead spots. The Tesla forums are covered in threads discussing what to check for when you pickup your new car. They aren't short check lists.

What Tesla excels at is making electric motors, battery packs, and the UI. They also do a good job with designing for efficiency. Autopilot also has the best lane stay of the versions of super cruise that I have driven. Where they struggle significantly is QC.

The other thing people don’t take into account is the rapid expansion of technology happening.

For example, if you buy a Tesla now, the battery you would hypothetically, at worst, need to replace in 2032? It will be lighter, more efficient and likely way cheaper than anything you see right now.

No one can predict anything except with electronics and tech except rapid improvement

Early gen model S BESS is performing quite well even considering the abuse they toon from bad management profiles. It’s pretty impressive how those and similarly powerwall1 have been keeping up as the age.

Their tech is really good and everyone else has been playing catch up to them in that department

The rest of their car is mostly garbage and hyundai/kia has better fit and finish.

brand new start up has QC manufacturing issues with the first gen vehicles.

news at 11.

i like how you avoided mentioning tesla cars BROKE the government 5-star crash ratings b/c they exceeded their highest marks for safety.

hyundai cars were COMPLETE shite when they first starting building them and now people seek out Genesis as a legit luxury vehicle.

the new teslas are as good as anything else and manufacturing is constantly improving.

Talk to a guy in California with an 1800 dollar electric bill from charging his Tesla. Even if you assume that EVs are quality vehicles and that the batteries don't require frequent replacement, they are still not a good option for many Americans.

they're a fantastic second vehicle. my wife traded in her Lexus SUV which was costing us $400-$500 in gas every month because of how much she used it (thats a damn car note) for a Tesla and not only is the electrical use negligable (we cant even tell on our electric bill) but she essentially wakes up to a full tank of gas every day and the 300 mile range is WAY MORE than she needs on a given day.

i hate the big brother aspect of it, but its absolutely a great second car. We have my good ol 4Runner for heavy lifts or trips.

I guess you missed all the actual statistics of engineered battery life and warranty details I included

Im not a tesla fan nor do i want one. But i've watched a documentary showing the exact opposite. The panel gaps and alignments now are second to none. Most of the cars are assembled by robots and has a high level of precision that humans cant match.

I’m pro Tesla, but I wonder what “usable driving capacity” is actually defined as. I’m anxious to see how they hold up in cold weather states vs warmer states.

Have you ever seen a battery that didn't need replacing at some point ?
