Why would some shadowy "elite" murder 128+ civilized people just to get their way? Doesn't make sense when they could just use the media to convince everyone of the same thing.
well if you believe in that stuff
1. there has been a media narrative. we were going to invade syria years ago but the US population basically revolted and was lke "naw Obama, we don't want to get involved in another land war in the mid east". guess who popped up right after that? ISIS
2. those who believe this believe 911 was orchestrated byy teh same group, which involved more than 128 deaths

Yes, but the point is, you don't have to murder 100 people to achieve the same goal if you control the media.
You don't HAVE to but it helps your end goals. The media can't just create a story like this out of thin air. Also think about social media's impact on this

Those who seriously believe in Israel's importance as a key ally, please present a coherent (keyword) argument, and how our alliance with Israel is anything but lopsidedly beneficial to them, and more of a detriment to us.
How much do you know about middle east politics and history?
Have you ever taken a foreign policy class?
Or are you just spouting nonsense?
quote:
Our military and intelligence apparatuses are powerful enough to stand alone, and do not require Israel's assistance.
This might have been maybe almost true before the Clinton Administration. It's certainly not true now.
quote:
Whereas Israel while sporting a formidable military would absolutely be left to the dogs if we rescinded our unwavering support, (of course I suppose there's an argument here, but if you ask me a lot of the counts have it coming it to them with some of their settlement policies, if you ask me, I'd say that those that realize that could get the frick out dodge and return to making money on Wall Street or Hollywood, and those dumb enough to stay well, shalom).
I keep trying to find a coherent thought to respond to here. But I can't. It's not a sentence and the parenthetical isn't even coherent.
quote:
Seriously, America's alliance with Israel, is arguably the only thing that pisses off the Mid-east as much as our actual military activity there.
This is wrong. There's massive historical and political roots for hatred that far exceed Israeli relations.
quote:
The best way to describe Israel, is like a roided up rabid pitbull whose owner (US) let it off the leash in the dog park (Mideast) and is attacking the shite out of the other dogs in the park (Arab countries), and even taking healthy gnaws at its master's ankles.
We absolutely do not "own" Isreal like a dog and they are very far from an obedient toy for us to play with.
quote:
they've been proven historically, to do things such as sink our own ships to scapegoat the Palestinians. What kind of fricking ally is that I ask you: LINK
Do you know how often the US blows up a hospitals or a school or something similar and sweeps it under the rug?
And I refuse to respond to your comments about Isreal somehow supporting ISIS.

Most people on this board are all for it and would welcome these people into their homes

I see what you're saying. Hell who knows anymore. Myself, I find the "muslims are savage, demonic subhumans" narrative more satisfying.

well if they are right, the elite does control the media, but that simply hasn't been enough to rally the support of the masses
the weird thing is they think Russia isn't part of this elite network and it's more east/west, but Russia is fighting ISIS, too
they are just supporting Assad. we oppose Assad but there are 3 factions fighting in Syria
to add some complexities

Everyone! Look how cool I am! I'm grossly misrepresenting arguments and then applying said small sample size to an entire group of southerners while bitching about other people doing the same thing!
Instead of sitting their in your ivory tower, put some solutions on the white board. Obviously most people don't believe we should be throwing nukes in the middle east like One dollar bills at a stripper. That being said, there is an obvious extremist enemy that exists and has zero interest on non-Muslim zealots remaining alive and functioning. They are born ignorant and will die ignorant, and have zero interest in learning anything but a highly biased, scary version of Quran and interpretations. Much like the SS Soldiers and roving Bosnian Death Squads, these rabid dogs need to be put down. It is terrible that they were never given a real shot at life, but at the end of the day, these ignorant people are tools being used by the enemy to put fear into the hearts of the world, and must be dealt with.

There's a lot of intelligence and creativity on this board. It'd be nice, during such horrific situations, if people would stop with the philosophical/political pecker fighting, a la Facebook, and operate more like a think tank. That is, listing potential solutions to the world's problems. If intelligent collectives functioned like that, somebody might actually produce a positive outcome.

i think the funnier part of his post was using this board as a policy think tank to win the war of ideology

If I had to guess, some people in the Middle East are going to disappear and never be heard of again. Rumors will be circulated that the French grabbed them, but nothing will ever be proved.

So you don't think solutions can be derived from public discussions, in general? That's cool.
As you were with the pointless discussion designed to do nothing more than gain virtual, social credibility and entertain yourselves with the misery of the world.

Don't the French tend to support the Muslims vs the Jews? Why are they terrorizing Paris? Why Bali? Why Russia? The answer is plain. It has nothing to do with the policies of the victims. It has everything to do with their unwillingness to submit to Islam.
With that said, I think we should extricate ourselves from the Middle East and leave Israel to defend themselves. But only because directional drilling and hydraulic fracturing have obviated the need for our current policies.

If you're wanting to derive solutions from an echo-chamber, might as well go find one with intelligent like-minded cliques. Not the OT
Posted on 11/14/15 at 8:30 am to HVAU
I'm sure that the Rand Corporation regularly consults the OT for policy development.
