Southwest is a good middle ground between the cheap shitty airlines like Spirit, etc. and the more expensive better ones.

I could probably afford to fly on better airlines, but I've had no issues with SW and I enjoy flying with them.

Is there anything worse than Southwest’s every man for himself seating policy? Since I’m not poor I’ll gladly pay the $30 to be front of the line, but still should be able to pick my seat...

I hate this too. I don’t want to sit in the back plane with poor people.

I'm a pilot and one of my pet peeves is how long and verbose the announcements by gate agents and flight attendants are.

That and funny safety demonstrations.

But upgrade to that Big Front seat on spirit for $30 to $40 and you get almost all the same perks as First Class on a major (no free booze of course, but Fly by Security, priority boarding, free carry-on) and then the poors walk by and envy you.

Southwest is great. Try rescheduling a flight with them (no charge) then try rescheduling with United or AA - they charge a fee that is about the same as the ticket cost so you basically lose your money entirely. They tell you up front that the ticket is non-refundable but they fail to mention that they're going to totally frick you if you need to change anything

I typically book flights early and choose an aisle seat. When I board, I get on as close to last as I can.

It felt like a cattle call and was a little bit stressful. I wouldn't say it was awful by any stretch of the word, it just isn't for me.

I use to be the same, so I get it. I also use to not take a carry on (even checked roll ons) other than a small backpack. The cost for a bag, which mainly just chaps my hide in principal, forced me to start doing carry ons. Now I just know how to make sure I get a good boarding#, and live with it.

Love has always been my closest airport, so that factors into it too.

I’m not a poor, and SW is by far my favorite airline.

I like that no matter when I purchase the ticket I can still get an aisle seat. I just have to check in precisely 24 hrs ahead of time, which is simple to do.

I like not having to pay $25 a flight to bring a suitcase.

I like being able to choose not to sit next to the average gigantic disgusting American with the eating willpower of a Labrador.

I like how easy it is to change flights with SW.

I like the way they service the cabin without an annoying cart.

I think their flight attendants and staff are much friendlier and more personable.

Yes.

Southwest's complete lack of available upgrades.

Whether I travel for work or pleasure, I always go for a long enough time to warrant a checked bag. I think I'm just conditioned to the fees.

Even if I flew 1st class (which I don't), I'd still want to board almost last.

I'm between 3 large airports but the one that has SW is also slightly farther away than the other 2 (hence Nov. being my first time to fly with them).

I never flew Southwest until I moved to DC. Some observations:

1. Southwest is rarely the cheapest option. UA from IAD or AA from DCA tend to be cheaper than SW from BWI, plus DCA is much easier to get to. Delta's also cheaper but always requires going through a hub, so that's a no-go for me, despite having been a satisfied Delta flyer for many years.

2. Southwest gives "customers of size" a free second seat. I think you're more likely to have a flight from hell where you're squashed by a 400 lb person next to you on AA/DL/UA than you are on SW.

3. Fly on SW and you'll never have to endure a CRJ again.

Once had a red-eye coming back from Seattle and was done with work early and wanted to see if I could get on an evening flight. The cost to change was more expensive that just buying a one way off of United's website just hours before the flight. But then on SW I once rebooked a flight to go the evening before instead of in the AM, cost me all of $5. Did that like 2 or 3 days ahead.
