My ex MIL came to my house while I was at work and poured about $1000 worth of booze down the drain.

That’s only a bottle or two in my house

So you’re MIL doesn’t want to let her grandkids down and aks for help and u basically say FU? Thats shitty

She should've been aware of her finances and how much she could afford to spend on the shopping spree. She didn't need to get extravagant with gifts.

ind you, they were on vacation staying at our house. I let her know...also in no uncertain terms...if she ever wanted to see my kids again, she would treat my wife as a mother with respect and whatever my wife says she needs to to in front of our kids is gospel, no matter how absurd she thinks it is. I told her if she didn't like it, I'd help her pack her bags to leave my house, and she wouldn't be invited back and would never see her grandkids again.

Sounds like quite the overreaction. No wonder your MIL screwed y'all over.

My MIL is pretty cool. She's definitely a little crazy from time to time and makes some really poor financial and personal decisions but her heart is always in the right place.

That said, she really pissed me off for the first time this year. I know it wasn't a big deal but it rubbed me wrong.

My wife broke her ankle earlier this year and I already had plane tickets, airbnb, etc. for spring training in AZ. Her mom agreed to come up and help out while I was gone. In fact, she decided to come up 3 days earlier because she knew I was getting my arse kicked by work, an invalid wife, kids, household chores, etc.

Turns out those 3 days before I left was apparently an opportunity for her to relax and get away from her husband. I mean she literally did nothing to help out around the house, not even run to the store if I needed something to cook dinner. I thought she was coming to help, not give me one more person to cook and clean for. Really irked me.

We moved to my wife’s hometown 5 years ago so she could be closer to family, including my MIL, but we’ve now decided it’s time to forget about us having any semblance of a relationship with her and are moving back to the Nashville area in the spring. We haven’t told her yet and plan to just let her figure it out on her own when she sees the for sale sign in our yard.
