Tell me why Imperial is better than the Metric system

Ignoring the politics of it being European etc.
What’s the scientific rationale?
The metric system is just so much more intuitive. And once you start using it, you never wanna go back. Currently on a global project that is using the metric system, and I can’t believe we never adopted it here.

Why did I think this thread was going to be about butter?

1) The only county to put a man on the moon uses the Imperial system.
2) The French invented the Metric system during their revolution.
3) Many other countries adopted it because it was easier than the Imperial and they are to lazy to do the math (hence #1 above). Don't be lazy.

Good question with complicated answers.
1. Changing to metric would carry a huge cost under the surface. Think about all the engineering documents, road signs, mile markers that would need to be updated if we swapped over. Not to mention the speedometer in every single car.
2. You would have to change how everyone thinks about speed while you make those changes. Think about trying to tech the not-so-intelligent basic fractions again?
3. The imperial standard does have its practical and pragmatic benefits. The number 12 for example can be divided by 2, 3, 4, and 6 which has its advantages in construction. Fractions like these are typically easier to deal with on a tape measure than .3333 ect.
You're not necessarily wrong thinking we should change but it's definitely more complicated than a blanket statement "we are metric now."

For scientific purposes, metric is best, but for every day use, imperial is better since it is a base 12 and your mind processes 12 better.

Wait, wrong Imperial.

The metric system is measurement for dummies. Not everything has to be base 10. Imperial is more accurate in a lot of ways. For example: 72.1 degrees Fahrenheit is far more precise than 22.2 degrees Celsius. For Celsius to be as precise as Farenheit, you have to stretch it out to 5 decimal places.
72.1 degrees Farenheit is 22.27778 degrees Celsius.
72.1 degrees Farenheit is 22.27778 degrees Celsius.

Because 36 inches is better than 39.3701

It isn't. We are just used to it

Jimmy Carter tried to switch us over to the metric system - one of his many failures.

The engineers that did it used the metric system when putting us there though

Canadians and British use a mix of the imperial and metric. British also use stones for weight no one else uses

I have a 9mm in my car.
I support the metric system
