Yeah there was a Hobbie shop there. They also had a little dirt track in the back and they'd have RC car races. Holy shite I forgot about Eckerds! I've been here since 1978. Anyone remember TG&Y? In the shopping center where Francos Crossfit is now. It was like our Walmart when I was a kid.

I lived in Mandeville from 91-96 then back again from 99-present. I lived in the Woodlands the other years. I recently visited there and there was very little new development since then and it was still full of trees some 20 years later. I wish that's how Mandeville stayed.

We used to have bb gun wars at the dead end between Flowers Estates North and South. A canal separates the two.

There are still parts of old Mandeville, Lewisburg, and Covington that are like that.

I have no clue. I was asking Pectus, based on his question.

My grandmother was born and raised in the house that used to be the old Friend's in Madisonville. How awesome would it be to live there today!

The last of their property was up 1088. Don't know if they still own it or not

No, but my great aunt was married to one. They lived on America Street in Covington.

I know the Sharps go way back to the early settlers of St. Tammany. I didn't realize some of those large land grants had made it through multiple generations without being broken up and sold off.

We had a fellow named Sharp who worked for us and lived on our property. His trailer was destroyed in the March flood, so we had to move it to higher ground. He's from one of the old families.

The Core family are early settlers to the area and had thousands of acres all over Western St. Tammany Parish, and there are still quite a few of them in the area. Willie Core built Lake Ramsay and owned all of the land surrounding the lake that is now the management area. His descendants still raise cattle and sheep near Red Bluff.

I lived across the river from Friends when it burned. I posted a pic on FB and a friend of mine from college, who's maiden name was Hebert, said her grandmother and her sisters grew up in that house in the early 1900s. I think she said the original structure was only 4 rooms and there were 7 or 8 people living there.

There is some pretty land in that area. I have a few cousins that live out that way.

I would be related to her. There were 5 sisters that grew up there. My grandmother was the youngest. The house used to be off of the river. When it was sold, it was moved to the waterfront by the new owners.

My grandmother never learned how to swim because her older siblings floated her down the river in a washtub when she was very young. She was scared of water from then on!

Did any of you old timers play the course they had over here? Wasn't Louie Prima a part of it, or a member?
