Yeah saying you wouldn't move from Louisiana to Colorado because of politics is like saying you wouldn't go from a fleshlight to Sydney Sweeney because her elbows are weird
Look at what has happened in California. People are leaving there in droves because of its crazy political ideology, which is affecting crime, taxes, the economy, etc. Politics should absolutely be considered if you are considering moving to another state.

Red flag laws and waiting period to purchase firearms would be a deal breaker for me. They also have magazine restrictions, and you need a government permission slip to concealed carry, so you are a subject rather than a citizen there.

What is you definition of bitter cold? It's supposed to be in the 50s and 60s this week.

my coworker was flying back from Harlingen to DIA and he said it was 30 degrees in October. obviously every one will have their ups and downs. it was an abnormally cool summer in Texas and it's been an abnormally warm fall.

i'm not complaining about Denver's winters.

Tomorrow, here in Dillon, the forecast high is 16 with snow and wind. Wind chill will max out at 3 at midnight and be subzero from daybreak on.

Pretty dang bitter.

The average high in Denver in July is 88 degrees and the low is 62 so thats 26 degrees difference

So your original statement was wrong and I was right. Got it.

quote:
Atlanta has AC, Denver largely does not.

Given that you’ve already made up some BS about temps not dropping at night, you will need to provide some support here. I live here and know one person without AC. Denver largely does have AC. Up in the mountains most people don’t, but that’s not true in Denver.

You said the difference was 25-30 degrees, it is not, it is 26. 30 is 14% lower than the actual temperature difference. That would be akin to claiming the average high is 100.32 degrees,

The Denver County and City building department and the Denver Area Realtor's association say that 40% of Denver area homes have central AC. Some lower income areas has less than 20%. Thats residences. The same hold trues for commercial facilities which largely do not have AC or have severely undersized AC. There is a ton of information on this thing called the Google from area agencies and media outlets which have loads of information concerning the lack of AC in the Denver metro area. As you say I do not live there so I guess its possible all of those people have an agenda, maybe heavily invested in the AC industry, but coupled with a substantial among of time spent in Denver in the summer, knowing lots of people who have indeed lived in Denver I have first hand knowledge of loads of people in Denver who do have issue with the lack of AC. Its also getting worse....high temps are trending up. Average temps are fairly steady but days above 90 and above 100 with corresponding higher over night temps are trending up...to the point that Denver residents have created a boom for AC contractors, according to the building department and industry organizations.

What Denver has an abundance is whole house Evaporative Cooling, ie Swamp Coolers which much for cost effective that traditional AC. The drawback to swamp cooler is the reliance on open windows to get the flow through the house. In the likely event there is smoke in the air during the summer months, you will introduce this into the air in your house. When the air is clean, it's truly the preferred method of cooling your house. I used to run the swamp cooler at nights in the summer and got my house temps down into the 50's and it it wouldn't have to kick back on until late afternoon. It was great.

It is pretty widely known that evaporative cooling is not as efficient in the SW and mountain states as it was 30 years or more ago. The air in these regions is drier than it was back in the day but humidity is not as stable....large amounts of rainfall in short periods of time and longer periods of draught create more humidity at times and when it isn't as humid wildfires are likely to be bigger and make swamp coolers less efficient. My shop had a swamp cooler in SW New Mexico....it was fantastic other than causing surface rust on all of my cast iron tools. Was merely a matter of removing that rust but if you did not stay on top of it it could pit surfaces. Our house originally had evaporative cooling (it was built in the 1980s). The previous owner had installed AC because the swamp cooler just wasn't what it once was.

I’ve had a house in Boulder for 5+ years and am there about 4 months a year. This is far from the truth. If anything it’s more non political than left leaning.

You do realize the number 26 is within the range of 25-30, right?

As far as the AC thing goes, Google search returns 30% of homes w/o AC in the Denver metro per the Colorado Sun. Not going by some AI result that says 40% have it and 30% don’t, leaving some amorphous 30% undefined

Lol, come on. Boulder of all places is liberal as hell.

My lesbian sister lives in Longmont, she isn't apolitical but she also probably doesn't even have signs in her yard. Idk maybe she does. But the denver area is incredibly left leaning, look at the damn election lol.

I know a guy that moved away from Denver to Florida because of the politics. I don't know if they are really that bad to live there, its a great state outside of the politics. Im shocked this guy couldn't handle it, but sometimes you don't really know people.

Wife and I moved to Fort Collins in October of 2022. It was a life long dream of ours to live here, but one neither of us ever though would happen due to my line of work being largely restricted to the I10 corridor. We love it here, the weather is FANTASTIC, I never knew you could enjoy a 4th of July spending all day outside in the upper 60's. We moved here for the mountains, having enjoyed camping, hiking, and back packing our entire relationship. The one thing that spoils the rest of the experience is the politics. Outside of Denver and Boulder, you'd never guess this was a blue state, but there are allegedly enough twats there to ruin it for the rest of us. Every legislative session we're fighting new gun control laws and other obnoxious crap they relentlessly push on us. The people I work with and those I have met since being here are totally in opposition to all of it, so it is bizarre trying to understand where all of that comes from.

Try and hit up a show at the Red Rocks while you're here, and don't forget to get your time entry permits for Rocky Mountain National Park months in advance, or you'll never get in. If you can't make it to RMNP, there are tons of mountains to enjoy outside of there, happy to give more tips on things to see/do if you want any.

Leaving Louisiana for Colorado was the single best decision I have made in my life. Being surrounded by happy, healthy people with all the opportunity for outdoor recreation is truly life changing. Denver as a city is great too. Of course it has some issues as any city does, but it’s a fun city and offers all the typical city amenities
