City income tax.

quote:

Cities with tax rates above 2% include: Philadelphia (3.98%), Pittsburgh (3%), Reading (2.70%), Scranton (3.40%), and Wilkes-Barre (2.85%).

That's real high for a city income tax.

Yes, it really is. The place is a dump to live in and the people are not friendly compared with what the OP is likely used to. When I lived there I was shocked out how many people smoked. I would only consider it if single and with a lot of money which can make any city ok. It's cool to visit for historical attractions but no thanks in ever moving back. Now, up in an area like Doylestown? Sure.

No, it really isn't. Of course the people aren't as nice as southerners, I think that's a given. But the city itself? It's fine. It's like every big city, some bad spots and mostly good spots...just learn which is which and you'll be fine.

Do you live in south LA?

I was there for a conference in April. There are some cool parts about the city. Reading Terminal Market was really interesting. City overall was kind of dirty though. Also, there's a law in Pennsylvania that you can't buy alcohol unless it's in a state sanctioned store. In other words, you can't swing by the gas station on your way home and pick up a 12 pack.

Also, traffic is dreadful.

I like it and have family in Springfield but I like Pittsburgh too.

John's has the best roast pork. Jim's and Ralph and Rickies have great cheesesteaks. Good scrapple at Dutch.

Very true. But Philly is vastly better than NOLA if you have the talent.

You realize that's how most states operate and Louisiana is the weird one, right?

And in this case, being weird is a really good thing.

Every state I've ever lived in sells beer in a gas station. Pennsylvania is actually the only place I've ever seen that, at least it's the only one I've ever noticed.

Philly is OK...it will be a culture shock though......its actually very affordable relative to Boston, NYC, and DC. It's kind of like a mini New York but without the glitz and glam....but its still has a very sophisticated scene.....its a college town too much like Boston....I like it and could get used to it. As far as suburban life, don't know much but out on the Main Line is where its at.....

Tons of assholes. Lived there for 6 months. "The City of Brotherly Love", what a joke. I'm guessing some guy was passing through town, he was wearing a shirt they didn't like, they ganged up on him and kicked his arse as a group, and as he left the bar he sarcastically said "this is the city of brotherly love", and the mother frickers were dumb enough to think he was serious and made it their nickname.

I wouldn't describe it as that at all. Those assholes have tons of pretentiousness when it comes to their city and will fight anyone who remotely demeans it in their eyes.

Its shitty. Used to live on the Main Line and in Wilmington, DE. I still have a ton of friends that are still in the area.

Yep. No fifth of crown at circle k no live

I actually hate Philly. It's up there with Cleveland in my book. Pittsburgh is a cool town though
