Aubie, your Bham / Cahaba Heights recs greatly helped me during the decade that I lived there. Still miss Red Pearl.

Now that I'm back home in Baton Rouge, let me return the favor: once you hit I-12 in Slidell, have Waze and GMaps on max-blast. Especially if the "New Bridge" or I-10 over the Atchafalaya is farked-up, take US190 over the Basin. Just really watch yo' speed in those small towns. Stop at Billy's in K. Springs, get a bag of boudin balls and enjoy the ride.

Welcome to South Louisiana.

I have an airbnb that Ill give you the TD discount. Its 1 blk from city park and downtown

The Hot Sauce House? Stayed there once - very nice.

Bon Creole, of course

Jane’s - not open for lunch; saw a councilwoman in there doing shots with a beer chaser while eating oysters at the bar. A few weeks later she was in the news for DWI.

Pelican’s On The Bayou - Never been disappointed in the few times I’ve been.

Shuck’s Seafood - technically Abbeville

Legnon’s - Bring an ice chest if you drive

There’s a little observation tower on the bayou when you cross on N Lewis St. Pull into the CVS parking lot and head to the bayou - you can’t miss it. Has some of the filthiest graffiti you’ll ever want to read all over it but it’s a nice spot to take a look at the bayou.

Dago’s or Dagos’s II? That is the question.

Any places where I could run either early AM or late PM and not get stabbed/shot?

The 4 mile loop trail around Spanish Lake is beautiful especially in the springtime. Lots of birds and critters to watch.
It's a quiet trail and very safe.
It's also a wide trail so it accomadates hikers, runners, moutain bikers and vehicles

Regular people there are good people. Mostly family orientated and dedicated Catholics.

The riff raff crowd is one of the worst but they tend to stay in one area you won’t be near.

Lizzie’s down town is a gem
Chef trained in Europe and returned to new Iberia to open up shop
Croissants are unbelievable along with their desserts
Lunch menu is very limited, they have a few more options at dinner
They don’t open every day so check before going
Bon Creole for a poboy or gumbo
Pho ly ly for Thai
Caribbean ice has good food but to go only

Jefferson island , Tabasco and main st are worth checking out
Don’t go to the west end ….

I’ll make plans tomorrow. Probably be in the Holiday Inn next to the interstate. Have an IHG account and that appears to be the ‘nicest’ one.

Thanks for the recs.
