Move to Ferriday instead, much safer and more things to do like the KFC buffet or hanging by the barber shop.

Lmao.
I remember several years ago the mayor of Ferriday got pissed because some feds came through and cleaned out some major drug dealers. He made a statement that basically translated to “The drug dealings were the major draw for tourism and the top revenue generator”.

Are you in town, or live in the outskirts? This is an interesting thread to me because we visit often and have entertained the idea of a retirement home just out of town with some acreage.

Not that long but your parents and grandparents should have known each other. That is the best way to know if your kid is running around with good people or not.

Or if you’ll do business together.

Lots of LSU and Ole Miss milfs there, for sure.

Both have so much potential, but I see little signs of life in recent visits. One problem both cities faced was that neither were a capital city or had a university. Compared to a town like Hammond that has SLU, it makes a big difference.

Basically, everyone I've met from Natchez has been an LSU fan. Vicksburg looks much more depressing whereas Natchez doesn't seem that depressing when I drive though. Good hunting and not far from BR. Get the benefits of MS (whatever those are) and drive over to Hammer's Drive Thru and get some alcohol whenever.

Glad to hear about the progress.

What is the status of the Eola? Is work going on? I heard it was supposed to be open by next year.

Natchez is on the route of the new I-14 planned to connect military bases from Waco Tx. to Warner Robbins Ga. that got funded under the recently passed Federal infrastructure bill.

Since the town was off the Interstate grid previously it could be a future significant change, plus or minus depending on your outlook.
And of course a it is a huge question as to how long it takes to complete the new Interstate and whether they stick with the route proposed.

Thinking there were folks in St. Francisville and all along Hwy 10 in La (Bogalusa) who hoped the I-14 route would be further south and use the current Audubon bridge to nowhere to cross the Mississippi.

Well, he wasn’t wrong…

Ferriday is such a shithole that I tell everyone the reason that Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmy Swaggart, and Mickey Gilley all succeeded was the threat of having to return to Ferriday if they failed.

I live and work there so spend everyday in Natchez.

1. I see absolutely zero hipsters
2. The police absolutely DO NOT have a handle on the crime. It’s not NO, BR or Jackson level crime but there has been a considerable uptick the last couple of years.

The Mississippi River shifting in 1876 really cut off the trajectory Vicksburg was on.

I ate dinner in Natchez last night. I think it is a great town with a lot of potential. There were a lot of tourists on the street downtown and tour buses all around.

I like how people think boring is bad.

Give me boring over crowds, overpriced food and housing, and car jackings.

I live in natchez and can’t name one crime that’s happened to someone I know in recent years. Maybe I just have my head in the sand. Most violent crime is retaliatory (doesn’t make it ok) and not perpetrated on random victims. Of course, I don’t hang out in certain parts of town either. My great grandfathers car was stolen from him in 1994 after he invited the teen in for ice cream and they took his keys…. So I guess I do know someone.

If you can’t acknowledge murders are happening at a higher rate than just a few years ago then there’s nothing anyone can say to change your mind. But according to your logic, nobody you know personally has been murdered so there’s no crime in Natchez.

Yeah, Natchez native here and crime has definitely jumped up. The new DA is a disaster but overall the town is trending up thanks to Tate and the mayor. Beautiful city and great old homes everywhere, still a nice, laid back place.

I was being a tad flippant with that remark. I was more commenting on how crime in Natchez does not change my personal day to day life. That may be insensitive I guess. I just know I have no problems walking around town and living my life.

Vicksburg has had better public schools for awhile, due to a bit stronger middle class, thanks to USACE and some industry. Those tolerable public schools are slowly fading into unserviceable. Natchez has a higher top end with more old oil money than Vburg. They’ve kept the “nice” parts of Natchez nicer than the nice parts of Vburg. The outskirts of Natchez are MUCH nicer and more affluent than the outskirts of Vburg, where it’s very hard to get away from junkyards, meth houses, and trailer parks.
