I'm thinking about taking a job where I would have to be in Joplin for about the first 3 months. After that I would still live in NOLA, but would visit Joplin for a couple of days every month or so.

From Googling, it seems that Joplin is a clean, safe city in the heartland of America.

Four hours from Ferguson. You just have to ask yourself, "Is that far enough?"

It's in Missouri, so watch out for the SJW's.

Joplin is only 50 miles from the Arkansas line.

Major drawback.

Joplin or is a city in southern Jasper County and northern Newton County in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Missouri. Joplin is the largest city in Jasper County, though it is not the county seat

Ideally it would be at least 150 miles.....

Ideally we could surgically remove Arkansas from the map and give it to the lowest bidder.

You will pass more John Deere dealerships on your drive to Joplin from Baton Rouge than any combination of car dealerships.

I live about 30 minutes away from Joplin, and can't stand the town. The town has no identity to speak of, everything there is meh. No nightlife, no good food, not a pretty town. YMMV

Cost of living in MO is very very good.

Not much culcha in the southern part of the state, but a good bit more tweakers.

Not sure about Joplin, but Springfield is a nice little city.

One of my good friends from high school went to college in Missouri and married a girl from there, moved to joplin and went thru the tornado. From what i see in pics seems like a small tight knit community. Infrastructure should be pretty modern given they basically had to rebuild the town.

I believe everyone in southern MO is on some type of government assistance. These are the laziest white people that sit around and crunch hydros and smoke cigarettes all day. Enjoy your stay!
