I'm told there are lots of sloots there.

Four hours from Ferguson. You just have to ask yourself, "Is that far enough?"
It's about 4 1/2-5 hours pending traffic. That's a good enough buffer.
I live 30mintues south of North County(ferguson), and the Bosnians gave us all a good buffer. They bought up South St.Louis and South County.

Always think about that tornado that tore up the town
I would imagine everything in that town looks and is brand new.
Not even trying to be a smartass. I believe it was an f5 tornado? That's bare rubble. Someone mentioned it being cookie cutter or something like that. I am sure that tornado didn't help.
No way in hell would I live somewhere that didn't have a real basement. We get twisters and waterspouts out here. A roof gets damaged or a car or two get tossed. Cars there end up in other counties. frick THAT.

You can always go to Branson for the weekend

Only a couple flights a day go in and out. You will probably have to fly in/out of Tulsa which is about 1.5 hours away. I spent almost 2 weeks Inn joplin for work a couple months ago. Not much going on. Restaurants and bars is about it. Cost of living is low. They do have casinos relatively close.
