Lived in Portland for 6 years as a kid. I liked it but it gets hotter than hell there.

Definitely a good time to be a plant baw in and around CC.

Learn Spanish & get a Selena portrait on the rear window on your truck & you will fit in just fine....

Is the water there clean?
What does this even mean?
Corpus Christi is in Texas, not Mexico. They don’t dump raw sewage in the water. Thanks to the clean water act, poor water quality is typically a rare thing in the US.

This is why I’m looking into the area
Plant is getting built in Portland, east of the harbor bridge where it's getting built is much safer than CC but is built more for families, any nightlife for someone in there 20's would mean traveling to CC or out to the island and Port A. The areas south of CC where several of the other posters are located would be a pretty good haul to where Exxon is going in and traffic to and from on SPID can be a bitch if going through there at regular rush time hours.

Like most cities it's mostly safe with some bad areas. Compared to Houston, NOLA, or BR, I'll take my chances walking around Corpus any day.

Its not nearly as bad as these troglodytes are saying.

I live in Southside Corpus and work at the plant across the street from the new Exxon location. It takes me 25 min to get to work in the morning and around 25-30 to get home in the afternoon. You can live off of Yorktown and use the crosstown and not have to worry about SPID. Next question.

In-Laws live in Corpus. I really like it. Cool downtown area right by the beach. I remember eating downtown and you could feel the ocean breeze. Neat city, actually. Port Aransas is right there, and is a nice beach.

Corpus is about to get a serious cash infusion as soon as the enviros quit challenging Exxon’s permits. Investing $7 Billion on a grassroots cracker and derivatives complex.

Would this be a decent place to live for a single professional from Nola is his mid 20’s.
Corpus isn't that bad. Lots of O&G money there. Water is clean, probably the cleanest on the Texas coast. Fishing is really good for both inshore/offshore. Nightlife is ok there but Port Aransas is right there and it has imo better nightlife even after the storm.

Add to that the Oxy work and other area expansions and errbody getting new truck nutz!

The water is green, not grey like Galveston, but not blue like South Padre. The areas closer to the water are more desirable of course.
Corpus housing is pretty clearly divided along racial lines, kind of like how BR used to be---NBR was one group, SBR was another.
Better life than BR these days, much better than Beaumont because of beach/water life.

quote:I don't really dislike Beaumont just because I like to duckhunt and fish and Winnie/Anahuac is awesome for ducks and it is only a short ride there from Beaumont. Plus, East Bay and Sabine are really good for inshore. Crystal Beach is kinda a cool place to go for a weekend after they rebuilt it post-Ike. Nightlife sucks though in Beaumont. No comparison there to Corpus or PA. PA feels like a Florida town to me. I think Beaumont would suck for a 20 something baw but then again, you can just go hang out at the Nugget in Lake Chuck for fun and games.

Dude if LOUISIANA could duplicate 1/10 of what CC has done with its little patch of coastline we’d be jacking off while eating ice cream cones.
