I live in Ocean Springs since ‘95. On coast since ‘86. The family and I are moving to just south of Hattisburg by Christmas.
O.S. Is a nice place to raise a family. I did. But house insurance is going up and up. Soon it will be like south Louisiana. Unless you need to live minutes from the beach, I’d find something a little further north. Less people and a lot quieter.

Damn dude you want no more than 1,000 people in your town or something? It doesn't get much quieter than OS while maintaining running water and indoor plumbing.

Long Beach

Their band is amazing, it’s the best on the coast by far. That seemingly implies a large pool of intelligent kids to choose from…however I’m not sure they field a decent sports team at all, they are terrible at football.

Im reading a book right now about the Dixie Mafia. I didn't realize Biloxi used to be filled with illegal gambling and whore houses.

With that said, what about closer to Bay St Louis?

I grew up in Long Beach and got the hell out of there.

In haiku form:

Single girls have kids
Muddy waters, casinos
It’s home, I miss it

Hope that helps.

Have friends with a place in Bay St. Louis. I really like the area but the people are weirdly unfriendly. Told my wife no pics) I felt like we were in the Twilight Zone. Like an east coast vibe.

So there’s a mix of rich, retired, mostly lesbian newcomers, and people who have been here forever. The people who’ve been here forever are very friendly, but the weekend crowds can be a bit much. People gawk and drive like shite, and are rude to restaurant staff…and in general the friendliness level drops when it gets crowded.

Next time go down to the Ugly Pirate on Thursday…or just somewhere locals hang out. Guarantee you’ll see different crowd than Triple Tails or something like that.

Great explanation. Makes sense. And I'll put that place on my list.

IMO, that's your best bet (and Woolmarket) and where I see next phase of growth. North of I-10 means lower insurance premiums but still close enought to commercials centers, which are also moving that way.

yup that's what we decided too when moving from Alaska back to the South.

I live just outside Diberville corp limits on 3+ acres.

I'm 8 minutes from the shopping area, 15 minutes from the casinos, 20 minutes from ocean springs.

I'm in Long Beach now. Small town, but it's the best school district in the state, and frankly, property taxes are probably less than what you'd pay in Baton Rouge.

Can you tell me more about Long Beach. Schools are the most important aspect for us and our girls go to a top tier school now by national rankings. The houses in Long Beach are more affordable and I always find houses there that are nice but close to train tracks which we are all train buffs and is actually a good thing. I did not know that the schools there were better.

Edit: I wanted to again give a heartfelt thanks to everyone. We talk a lot of shite on the OT but when it matters this place is salt of the earth.

OS and it ain’t close. Great schools, plenty to do. The property taxes and insurance aren’t low.

Not sure how LB will line up with national rankings, but as far as MS goes it’s very highly ranked.

The other option is the all girls school in BSL. The private, Catholic, system here goes coed through 6th, then all girls 7-12th. My son goes to the all boys school next door.

Coast Episcopal is considered the best K-6th grade school on the coast however.

LB, Pass Christian and OS are all good school districts, and Biloxi and Gulfport have tons of casino money (very nice, big facilities) as well, but the demographics are more mixed.

I’m in the middle of 200 acres here in Hattisburg. Ocean Springs I believe is 7000 and it’s growing. On the coast I’m in at andrews area. Since Katrina we have had 4 new subdivisions put in.
Don’t get me wrong. If I had to live in a town it be ocean springs!! But I do t have to live in town.
Let’s see what happens when all the insurance companies start bailing Luke in La.

Ocean Springs would be a good place to raise a family with a relatively cheap COL

Biloxi was the first place I ever had my own place with a lease. I really only have good memories there. It was kind of ghetto (or at least run down) where I lived, compared to Long Beach or Ocean Springs, but there are certainly nicer areas as well.
