Considering moving back to the South to get closer to family. I like the price point of the Mississippi coast and I have lived on the gulf in Alabama but have not ever visited Biloxi or Ocean Springs. I am flying there next week with my oldest to check out the area. We have 2 daughters in elementary school. Appreciate any info...

Ocean Springs is nice, they have good public schools as well.

If you’re willing to go private check out Bay St Louis too.

Solid area that’s developing like crazy. I know quite a few folks with very nice camps out there and some that moved there permanently. From what I’ve experienced it’s little pockets of communities. Most of the people there know each other and look after each other. Kinda like the way it should be everywhere. The little market areas are all cool with a time warp feeling.

Best place to live out of Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama

Just got back from a Mississippi Seawolves Hockey game.

Cheap COL, Ocean Springs is best school district in state of MS, plenty of things to do outdoors (fishing, water sports), always entertainment (Minor league baseball, hockey, aquarium, casino’s, concerts)

Not anymore, baw. That distinction goes to Long Beach.

As far as OS and Biloxi. OS has good schools. Lots of different extracurriculars (skateboarding, sailing, etc) for kids. Downtown OS is the gem of the Coast. One of the highest costs of living on the coast, though. Longterm, I foresee home insurance becoming more and more of an issue for those living below I-10. Additionally, I'm a little concerned with what's happened around OS's bubble. OS itself is experiencing some growing pains, but St. Martin has really slid downhill recently, imo. OS is surrounded by St. Martin, Gautier, and East Biloxi. All are on the wrongside of their heydays.

Biloxi schools are ok. Lots of money, not as high quality as other Coast schools. There are some ok neighborhoods (Cedar Creek, Popp's Ferry).

The exit /shops/restaurants/ stuff to the North of I-10 Biloxi is considered D'iberville. I would highly recommend El Ranchero in the Shopping Center by Academy. Tell them LaBR4 sent you for Free Chips and Salsa before your entrees.

IMO, that's your best bet (and Woolmarket) and where I see next phase of growth. North of I-10 means lower insurance premiums but still close enought to commercials centers, which are also moving that way.

I was shocked at how nice the beaches are when I was down there last December for a run. Apparently they’ve had a big renovation

You are very astute. My husbands from MS and I have always found people there exceptionally kind. I need my kids to know the warmth that comes from having your family around. That trumps any politics I have. I really appreciate all the info from everyone. Anyone know anything about girls community sports there? The youth sports where we live now sucks.

I absolutely loved living in Biloxi. I'm sure I would have loved Ocean Springs too.

I'm in Long Beach now. Small town, but it's the best school district in the state, and frankly, property taxes are probably less than what you'd pay in Baton Rouge.

Obviously not my area of expertise. Of course, the schools will have female sports. There's also a female, hipster cycling club and running club in Ocean Springs. Also a female jiu-jitsu gym in St. Martin.

Pass Christian has the highest ranked public schools and is still close to the hospitals. Also a long but not excessive commute to Slidell.

The Coast has good youth soccer. BAYS, SMSC, etc depending on where you live. WLOX shows high school highlights.
