You need a foot up your arse for letting your 14 year old kid go out at 12:30 a.m.

You called him and didn't tell him to get his arse back in the house?

I'm not trying to be a dick, but the kid didn't do anything wrong. You did.

Who the hell lets a 14 year old kid walk out the doors at midnight?!? I'd have gotten my arse beat for that alone. Jesus.

No shite, I had to sneak out after 10 P.M. if I wanted to do that - my parents would never have willingly allowed me to leave at that time.

Wait what? He left the house at 1230 am?!? And all u did was call him? Mine wouldn’t have made it out the house.

This is why I'm glad I don't have kids. I'd be an awful parent.

Also at you letting your son step out at 12:30 in the morning at 14 years old.

Damn reading this thread I guess my parents gave me too much freedom?!

I had to tell them where I was going, but it wasn't an issue.

Teenagers suck. My oldest now 23 became responsible at 20ish...my youngest 18 is in the thick of super stupid.

If you were at the beach, no big deal letting them stay out. At home, big no no - precedent set, unless you quash it now.

To be fair, the time jump last night means he pretty much came home at 730 am.

My guess is that if he took LSD he would be more likely to feel and experience God not deny him. Fourteen is far too young for him to try LSD though.

My 14 yo would have breath that smelled of shoe polish. That's how far up his arse my boot would be stuck.

Maybe he’s gay, and feels he needs to hide it from you.

have a son 14 he's never given me any problems, been playing sports all his life, never been in trouble. They have been on spring break all week This morning about 12:30 am I heard the door open and close so I called him and asked what was going on, he said "I'm going riding with a friend" then stated some girls name. I got up at 8:30 am and he was still gone, took the dog to walk and here his arse comes walking down the sidewalk, then a car full of teenagers drives past with the front passenger seat empty. I don't know if I should put my foot up his arse or blow it off as kids enjoying the last night of spring break

Overly protective parents NEVER have problems with their kids once they move out for college.

Your first mistake was not telling him to get his butt back in bed at midnight. I can’t fathom being ok with my 14 year old heading out the door that late.

I was coming here to give advice as I have parented through 5 teenage boys, but I decided it would be pointless for someone who allows his 14 yo son to LEAVE the house at 12:30am.

Some of my friends’ parents had a more lenient approach where they didn’t make drinking or going out to be some kind of huge, unredeemable sin. Those friends seemed to end up less rebellious than I did.

It’s not about being lenient, but having open communication. Actions have consequences, and putting yourself in a bad situation to try and sneak one past your parents isn’t worth it. Let them know that no matter what, you will come and pick them up.

The best part OP just went about his normal routine afterwards
Went to bed, woke up and when son still wasn't home by 8:30am, OP decided to walk the dog
