Where I grew up, if you spit on someone you got your arse kicked. It didn’t matter what condition they were in, it would get exponentially worse. Spitting was a line that you knew the consequences and had to voluntarily step over.

Kid was maybe 120 soaking wet. Fried chicken and mashed potato eating man was probably closer to 300 he could have handled this better. Certainly the regular duty cops could have they looked to be in shape and could handle this better.

Kid was having a meltdown of some sort. He was more of a risk to himself than others

Where I grew up, if someone punches you, you retaliate with whatever you got. If you are being held back and someone punches you, if the only thing you can do is spit.. You spit. You don't want blood spit on you, then don't get cheap shots in on me, make me bleed and then I am left there not able to do anything else.

Basically I've pandered to this kid for 16 years and can't control him so I'm taking him to the ER. Fix my kid for me because I never disciplined him. Seen this hundreds of time. Results of I want to be my kids friend and not their parent

If a temper tantrum throwing little shite that was allegedly requiring hospitalization spit blood in my face, I'd probably beat the shite out of him too, and I'd accept whatever consequences the pearl clutchers thought was necessary.

Based on the initial demeanor and movements of the mom and kid, this seems like a dramatic mom wanting to make some point to her a-hole child without calling the cops. She probably took away his Xbox and he started breaking shite in the house. They should send a bill to the family for the treatment for his "mental health crisis." Two punches is what the doctor ordered.

Two things come to mind.

1. NOBODY knows how you will react when your really get your face spit in. I have seen chokes applied, masks applied, urinary catheters tugged. Add bloody spit??

2. Shows you another facet of mental health crisis. Nobody is equipped to deal with this anymore. It needs training and numbers of staff to be done safely. I've been an ER nurse for a long time. I've wrestled and I've also told people to frick off and pointed to the door. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Put hands on someone and they say frick off and start fighting? You're in a fight. What do you do? I am not trained in how to take down someone without hurting them. You let them walk and they harm themselves, are you responsible? What if you are old, a small female, overmatched? Nobody gives two shits about you after you arse is kicked.

I choose to not fight anymore. I do not trust that a hospital will back me for a fight if an injury occurred. You have to defer to police and security. If none are there, you are not equipped to deal with a psych patient in true crisis.

This thread is apparently about 95% made up of people that know nothing about mental illness first hand and apparently would be ok with a cop punching their 120lb 16 yr old kid while handcuffed and having a legitimate crisis. All these “your gonna catch hands” comments are such a joke. If you work in an ER and punch a patient, you aren’t working in an ER anymore. It’s called being a professional. That goes for the cop as well. 100%. You’re a sad motherfricker if you think that’s ok. If you are a police officer you should be MORE than capable of dealing with a human that size.

The mom waves for help as the kid is shoving her and you want to blame the security? They don't know the extent of his craziness. And you are trying to justify him spitting blood on them? Because they caused it? I'd say crazy boy caused it. Maybe he can't help it because he's crazy. But you people that blame cops/security, etc based on a quick video versus what they encounter day after day are lazy.
