Why do we have AA colleges but not white only colleges? Serious question
I'm such a racist for saying this :oh no!!:
Everyone focusing in on this, but it's okay for someone to call me a grand wizard lol.
I've been cool in this thread.
I was pointing out how I believe it's wrong that certain colleges still are called black colleges (regardless of historical stand point)
Just as it's ridiculous that AA get points for being a minority. These people know nothing of true oppression.

For the down voters, please tell me how AA are oppressed.
Slavery ended a long time ago.
AA are making this worse.
What more do AA want??
Funny how everyone will call me a racist but won't have a true discussion.

So she was accepted into 113 colleges, offered $4.5M in scholarships, and ended up going to the small liberal arts college in her hometown?
Seems like much ado about nothing here.
Good for her, it's fantastic to see hard work rewarded, but this just isn't a story.

This is not news, but a facebook post to the "look at me" crowd.
Congrats for working the system though

You’re contorting this thread dude.
Your original post asked about “AA colleges” and when everyone explained to you that there is no such thing, that they’re called “historically black colleges and universities” and explained why, you persisted on calling them “AA colleges”.
That’s not the behavior of someone who wants to have a discussion. That’s the behavior of someone trying to make a crappy point.

Like I said, that fact that this is what you chose to take away from the article says a lot about you.

She’s the loser in this. The colleges are the winners in all of this, she paid out the arse with 113 application fees, normally $100 a piece

why don't people read the article before posting?

I'm glad she is getting an education and a way to support herself down the road.
Whitey with just a 4.0 ain't getting into 113 colleges though.

Exactly. If I recall correctly, Morehouse had a white valedictorian ~10yrs ago.

With help from her mother and school’s faculty, WFMY reports Harrison was able to apply to all the schools for just $135.

Why is there a sudden explosion of these stories? Why are people applying to so many colleges they know they are getting into? My initial reaction was a bit cynical, that these kids are doing this for attention. I feel like that's being substantiated with every new story.

They are historically black.
Pretty much every other university was historically white.

it's just a generational thing, like how when kids ask each other to dances it has to be some extreme production
a while back schools started promoting kids who were graduating with $x in scholarships. i think my school did it a little and that was back in 2001 but i presume it's exploded. so now it's a competition for some to get "the most money"
even though you can only choose one college/scholarship
it seems the quality of schools is now irrelevant

I thought the scale only went to 5.0. Personally I think the honors system is bullshite. It should be a 4.0 scale, not an extra quality point because a class may be harder.

The high schools encourages it. They use total dollar of scholarships as propaganda.
They will make it very public that X amount of students graduated earning $ X dollars worth of scholarships. She will get credit for 4.5 million worth even though she will only use a few hundred K.
