Transistor, semiconductors, lasers and fiber optics.
July 1947: UFO crash in Roswell. Bell Labs given debris from spacecraft.
December 1947: Shockley "invents" the transistor at Bell Labs by reverse engineering spacecraft components.
1956: Shockley wins Nobel Prize for transistor and founds Shockley Semiconductor in Silicon Valley.
1957: Shockley's engineers bail and start a semiconductor division at Fairchild.
Late 1960's: Engineer's leave Fairchild, and start companies like Intel, AMD, Mostek, etc.
All computer technology we have now grew from the alien seed that was reverse engineered by Shockley in '47.
Without aliens we wouldn't have computers as we know them, smart phones, the internet and Tiger Droppings would still be a fanzine.

I don't know but always thought the advancements made from about 1940 to 1970 were staggering. I'm too dumb to understand all of the specific scientific breakthroughs so it's easier to just assume alien technology.

What reason would a race of tehnologically superior beings have to hide from the lesser species?

No I don’t think they are allowed to interfere with our free will. There are laws that have to be obeyed concerning what soul group you belong to. There is a Hidden Hand out there controlling events behind the scenes I’m sure.

There are quit few others in besides Shockley that made big leaps in their field in the late 1940s. Edward Purcell was a physicist that received the Nobel prize in physics in 1952 for discovering the principle of nuclear magnetic resonance which is the basis of todays medical MRI imaging. In the early 60s he made the jump to the field of astronomy where he was the first to detect radio emissions from neutral galactic hydrogen, affording the first views of the spiral arms of the Milky Way, which launched the field of radio astronomy.
