Does it seem like innovations over the last 10 or so years are busting more often?

All of these were supposed to be game changers but are now relegated to niche markets.

3D printers
google glasses
VR headsets
metaverse
NFTs
cryptocurrency
electric vehicles

I could easily see AI being next on the list..

I hope you're right about AI. Scary stuff to me. Do not want to know what happens once it learns how to escape the parameters that are set for it by humans. I Robot type stuff.

I flew a T-38 sim a few weeks ago using those things, first time I've had them on, was realistic as heck, you could even join up and fly formation in those things

AI is here to stay as it has to potential to be used in every industry. You're right about other tech innovations though. Don't invest in the latest tech craze once it's gone mainstream.

Tech is just advanced to the point where it is very expensive and risky to push the envelope.

3D printers- Wrong
google glasses- Yes.
VR headsets- Wrong.
metaverse- Has existed in some capacity for 30 years. You're posting on one now.
NFTs- Scam. But have existed in some capacity for 15 years. Digital items that are transferable between digital mediums.
cryptocurrency- Will never go away.
electric vehicles- Will never go away.

What an awful post.

The just launched a fully 3D printed rocket into orbit. I wouldn’t call this a bust just yet.

I've never been able to understand how those thin wings can create enough lift to keep that thing in the air

Multi-billon dollar industry that has had staying power for over 20 years now. Sony, meta, and valve have all made major profit off of it.

If this was 96 and I was using a vr headset in a mall like they had set up, sure. But it's been around for over 30 years at this point.

people think because they dont use it....its a bust, its dumb.

so many people on this board have so little self perception or any perception outside their little bubble. its laughable.

I think AI is scary not because it'll unleash some Terminator scenario, but simply because it is part of (and a harbinger of) an even crappier future. Everything it does seems kind of 90 percent there... remember the sad little Roomba thingy banging against a corner in Idiocracy? That's our future- people accepting partially cleaned floors and sad little robots because they're too lazy to wield a fricking broom. Kind of reminds me of the work-from-home / school-from-home thing. Suburban idiots will sell their souls to dodge a commute or a carpool lane. Corporate idiots will gladly sell you crap at a (small) discount.

Expect a precipitous decline in the quality of application software, too, with all the noise about how computer programmers are obsolete. Nobody is training up for that (very necessary) shite right now because of a bunch of breathless, three-bong-hit "pundits" and their bullshite articles. This is your bank's website we're talking about, the shite you use to book vacation plans, etc.
