It's tough for UPS to handle rising labor costs while Amazon is putting them out of business.

If the Teamsters strike we can probably thank Jeff Bezos.

I’d be curious to know what that graph looks like in terms of actual volume. I know Amazon Logistics is picking up a shitload of market share, but I wonder how much of that is simply them capturing Amazon’s volume growth vs. Amazon actually moving volume from other carriers to Amazon Logistics.

Although I suppose that it could still mean loss of business for the other carriers since a lot of Amazon’s growth is replacing sales from other online stores, which would have likely shipped on UPS or FedEx.

It’s an interesting dynamic for sure. I don’t see the B2B market, which is dominated by FedEx and UPS, going anywhere. I’m sure residential deliveries make up a huge portion of their business. But you also (presumably) don’t need nearly as many drivers - on a per-volume basis - for B2B deliveries as you do for residential deliveries.

The great thing about merit is there is no limit on raises and promotions..

But y'all can sit around and let the union scale dictate your worth.
Every person can accept or reject what someone else determines their value to be. That's America. God bless America.

Nah, you would also enjoy meritocracy where youre rewarded for what you do.

Theres no system better to reward effort, its far better than piddling union scale raises and seniority.

these UPS guys will be unemployed because they are tied to the least among them, not the best.

truck drivers are much higher in demand than people with college degrees right now.

Also, I'm not in a union, I just recognize their value to the American workforce, specifically workers that belong to corporations that employ 100k+ workers

Unlike you, we all don't listen to what others tell us to think. Look at the UFC fighter contracts right now vs unionized sports like NBA, MLB, NFL contracts. The heavyweight champ (Ngannou) didn't even make shite in the UFC because fighters have no leverage. As soon as they start asking for money, Dana White kicks them to the curb.

Conor McGregor made more money in an exhibition boxing match than any of his title fights in the UFC, maybe more than all of them combined.

Fair point - when you look at shipping volume and revenue UPS isn't hurting too bad.

Nope, fired and banned from further employment opportunities.

Yeah let’s see how that turns out.

Won’t have to deal with this ever again. So I’d say very well.

You're the exact reason the unions were started to begin with all those years. Can't say you ever let the slaveowner mentality truly die. Congrats, I guess.

I guess I do side with workers over corporations every single time

hard not to when you see enough stats like this

Corporations would rather fire and replace workers with a recent college grad or a robot if it saves them a couple thousand a year. The only way to combat this is collective bargaining

stop lying.

you were definitely one of the “a private business can do what they want” and cheering on corporations firing those not willing to get vaccinated.

which proves my original point: you take what stance you’re told to take.

no, that's retarded. A corporation should have no say on how a person handles their personal healthcare, outside of providing insurance.

That's too broad of a statement.
There are degrees in significantly higher demand than trucking. Healthcare as an example.

I value truck drivers. My post specifically referenced a family friend driving for FedEx.
He has no degree. But he is an exceptional artist.

Mocking someone's attempt to paint UPS drivers all as academics with a bachelor's does not indicate anything about the value of a driver.

A pro-strike person who ignores that there are several competitors/employers against UPS in the space (i.e. if you are worth more, then go out and get more) is obviously looking at the situation in an extremely narrow scope.

Your chart is misleading.

It indicates that corporate profits are up at the expense of wages.

That is a lie. Why even post that unless you have a better point to make.

I support the union and the workers strike. Would much rather have better paying jobs and a stronger middle class for folks.

And these are blue collar jobs that don’t require degrees.

The OT should be all over bolstering those kind of jobs paying a good wage with good benefits.

I know tons of UPS folks just by living here in Louisville. They work those people, drivers and at the hub, like a dog. Especially during peak season. They deserve decent pay and benefits.

The OT: "They ruined this country encouraging everyone to go to college"

Also the OT: "These UPS employees don't even have a college degree, why do they deserve more money?"

sir, you do realize corporations have been enjoying record profits the past 2 years while marking up their products more than costs and blaming it on inflation right?
