It's not an ocean, per se, but a reservoir.
All the water is bound in minerals and at a certain temperature and pressure (due to depth in the Earth's interior) the water is locked up in that mineral until it reaches different conditions.

They will have major problems with drilling fluids and down hole tools holding up to the pressures and temperatures. I don't see this being achievable with the current drilling technology! But stranger things have happened!

Yeah, I feel like when they get close that their pipe will get too malleable and they'll end up twisting it...shortening it.

Where would you drill if you wanted to drill from the ground surface into the mantle, but with the shortest length of drill to reduce your cost?
You would put your drill ship right above the Marianas trench, yes?

Yeah, drilling 1.5 km isn't much at all. But when you get to 450F temps, we are getting to what we consider high temp range currently. I would think the temperature of the mantle is going to be much higher than that. So if that technology exists, we've got a lot of oil we now have access to.

It's only 1.5 KM deep. Pressure should not be a problem. Not sure what the geothermal gradient would be in this scenario.
