I'm pretty sure my girl goes to the same school because she came hope spewing the same nonsense.

Drive used cars.
Live in a smaller house.
Take stay-cations.

Do whatever you have to do to send your kids to private schools if you live in Louisiana.

When I was in 5th grade, we had a mock presidential election. I was pretty excited about getting picked to be Al Gore.

My teacher said, "But he's for the gay people!"

Yes, a culture of intolerance for the opinions of others if they differ from yours. You can be assured that a teacher said she thought Reagan was the best president in the last 50 years, there would be no whining whatsoever from the same crowd.

And do you really think only black people (because that is exactly what you meant by culture) voted for and think highly of Obama? He was only elected twice and the culture you speak of makes up only 13% of the population. Fact is more white people voted for Obama than black people.

The "free ride" mentality is not limited to a color; everyone know this. Look at who this state historically elected as governor.

Well, I got yelled at by a black guy (I assume) for using the word "democrat" when talking about the residents of St Tammany Parish "running the last democrat out of town". I was referring to STP as being a conservat enclave and was not making a racial reference and all. I wasn't hip to "democrat" being code for black people.

Even after explaining this, and he could see I was correct, he still lacked the balls to apologize.

Since then, I never assume an inference.

In my high school history class, we asked the teacher, a great teacher by the way, who she thought was the best president in recent times. I always thought she was liberal, based on her history lessons.

After some thought, she answered, "Nixon." I, along with the rest of the class, was kind of shocked. School kids are always taught to hate Nixon. But, her answer inspired me to actually look into the Nixon presidency. You know what? He actually was a pretty good president, despite the faults that unraveled his term.

At the height of the anti-war movement that we are conditioned to associate with his presidency, he won an overwhelming re-election. That happened for a reason. I would never have given Nixon that benefit of doubt had our history teacher not countered popular thought.
