I don't understand your post.
When I was in school, you'd get a 0 for not turning in work. And 70 was the cutoff between a D and F.

Zero is the appropriate grade for not turning in assigned work.
Can’t believe dumbass school board fired her for it.

Baw, when I went to school, 60 was still an F.

The policy isn't really ridiculous if you think about it. Take a 10-point grading scale, for example.
Obviously, there are 10 points between grades, with a 50 being an F. Why is there a floor of 50 points just for the F? If a student doesn't turn in work, receiving a 50 is still a failing grade. To some, a 0 seems punitive and destroys the student's grade. In such a case, if a student were to earn 2 Cs (70) and 1 F (0) and fail the class, would that be considered reflective of the student's entire body of work?
I can see both sides of the argument.

This is debatable when entitlement programs are factored in.
On the flip side, you can declare bankruptcy and, with hard work and determination, later become successful.
In short, a ZERO plus a 100 equates to an average of 50...still an F.
Whereas an A combined with an F equates to a C.
I get both sides. In St. Tammany I am still allowed to give ZEROES so that is what I do. However, I do allow for re-takes (scaled down with 3 opportunities the 1st 9 weeks, 2 the 2nd, 1 the 3rd, and none the 4th as they are expected to handle business fully by that point). It should be noted that my classes are predominantly freshmen and there is a transition period to high school. After that...re-tests are not an option as they move forward through the upper grades.

And you're part of the problem. Zero question as to where "the rule" stems from; zero question if "the rule" was written with the greater good in mind. You know good and damn well this is fricking bullshite, but the fact that you'd rather stick your head down and mumble something about "well, 'the rule' states so" is what causes this type of shite to keep going.
People like you just blindly follow without questioning/arguing for logic to prevail.
Here's a new rule I just encountered: Posters with a username that begin with the letter "D" automatically get kicked in the nuts and have their pinky toes cut off. Sorry, the rule is the rule....

It's a joke - all smoke and mirrors. Take a quick peek at this. In the end, I'll "need" to pass about 80% of these morons.
I say "need" because yes, I could actually fail all of these future rocket scientists and give them the grade they earned. This would only bring down 100 different kinds of holy hell and scrutiny on me as to why Coach's students are failing. More work for our administrators, more work for my department head, more training sessions for me, and basically a lot more big brother looking over my shoulder 24/7 making sure I'm dotting every "i" and crossing every "t".
And eventually, I'm deemed "ineffective" and sent packing, when in actuality it's because little Bobby and Suzy refuse to turn in any work or study.
Was MUCH easier for me to fail the kids (who deserved to) when I was at a better school because there were fewer of them.

Dang, I forgot to mention that I've already padded these numbers a bit.
The good news is that I'm only a few years away from cashing out my chips and leaving public for private.

Nah. The parents there seem fine with it. It's their school district, not mine. If they don't like the rules they can change them.
If only you could force your opinions on everyone else with these melts...

You have no authority. You're part of the problem. You're too weak to actually do anything, so you come here and complain.

Amazing how stupid school boards can be. Why even offer education, if you don't care if the students do any of the work?

The last school district I worked for in Florida had a no zero policy. Do nothing and you get 50%. It was keep students from failing.

no-zero grading policy, written in red in the school’s handbook, stating, “NO ZERO’S – LOWEST POSSIBLE GRADE IS 50%.”
This is how kids "graduate" high school even though they can barely fricking read. Everyone involved in the creation, support and implementation of this policy should be fired and never allowed to work in education again.
Public humiliation would be a good additional penalty.

The people that hate what this teacher did were probably proponents of getting that LSU prof that didn't pass many students in their class fired.

This explains a lot about the leftist generation. First it was everyone gets a trophy, then it was everyone deserves a house, everyone should have a cell phone and internet. Everyone should get to go to collage and your know what, you should have to start your career saddles with student loan debt, you shouldn't have to pay that back. I think even a moron can see how liberalism/progressive socialism is a cancer on humanity. It is self serving and eventually destroys the host. It has never and will never be a successful model for anything except making a few elites extremely wealthy and feel special for being in charge for a few years.

Lol at this policy.
So you have a 20% chance to get an A-F, no matter how bad you do.
Think about if you were taking a class you really didnt give a shite about and had good enough grade that going into the final or some big project, you just dont take it or do it now because of this policy. Its a really dumb policy. I could understand the policy if you gave it a good effort or tried but to not even turn it in and still get 50% is just dumb.

KSAT reached out to the school district, and a spokesperson responded saying, in part: "Ms. Tirado was released from her duties as an instructor because her performance was deemed sub-standard and her interactions with students, staff, and parents lacked professionalism and created a toxic culture on the school’s campus. During her brief time of employment at West Gate, the school fielded numerous student and parent complaints as well as concerns from colleagues. Based on new information shared with school administrators, an investigation of possible physical abuse is underway."
