OTTAWA — A former substitute teacher in Putnam County pleaded guilty Thursday to sexual battery, a charge that carries up to five years in prison, for having sex with a student at a school where she taught.

During the same hearing, a prosecutor said Jessica Storer’s husband, Derrick Storer, also has been charged in the case.

Assistant Putnam County Prosecutor Lilly Shun said the husband was charged over his role in the case. Putnam County Municipal Court records show Derrick Storer, 33, pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree misdemeanor furnishing alcohol to a minor. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 16 and faces up to six months in jail on each count.

In exchange for the plea against Jessica Storer, the prosecution dismissed six misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor against the 28-year-old Pandora woman. She will have to register as a sex offender for life.

Shun read a statement of facts into the record that included Storer and her husband providing alcohol to a group of children they invited over to their home on Nov. 26.

The teen Storer had sex with was a student at Pandora-Gilboa High School where she had worked as a substitute teacher at least five times.

“Mrs. Storer engaged in sexual intercourse with (the student) while (the student) was still under the influence of alcohol,” Shun said.

Storer immediately spoke up, saying the student was not intoxicated. Shun responded by saying the student admitted to being under the influence, another student also said he was but in the end it didn’t matter since the sexual battery charge did not require that as an element of the crime.

Judge Randall Basinger asked Storer what happened.

“I was engaged in sexual conduct with an 18-year-old student,” she said.
