I’m old. Sometimes I will still give my card to the cashier. Goes back to the old days when they ran it through a machine with a carbon slip.
In the 70’s I had a card for every Major oil company Texaco,ConocoPhillips,Exxon,Sun,Spur,Mobil,Shell,Amoco and Sinclair/Shamrock ,VISA American Express and Diners club.
I knew whores that would take credit cards. They would carry one of those card machines with carbons in their dildo bag. I used to get a few of them for customers. ( whores not Cc machines. )

I have no idea how to pay with a phone, watch or tap.
Sounds like some voodoo shite where someone with a scanner sitting nearby can intercept the radio waves and hijacker’s your payment method.
I make sure to get out some cash every other Friday when I go deposit my paycheck at the old Hibernia.

This is one of those inventions that I never really got the need for. Is inserting your card really that inconvenient and in need of a solution?

Why would you go through the trouble of getting your wallet out, getting your CC out and then having to insert it into the reader, wait, and then pull it out when you can pull your phone out, tap and you're done?

My issue is that it's not accepted at many places or it just doesn't work. Paying with your phone is more secure than using the card.

I'm not so lazy that I feel it a burden to swipe or insert my card.
I tapped to pay for the first time at Costco last night and I felt uncomfortable.

Who insinuated that it's a "burden"? You're trying to cover for your own insecurities by attributing some made up moral virtue on to what is just a financial transaction. If it can be done more quickly and efficiently (and generally more safely) by tapping to pay, then why not do it that way? Otherwise, why wouldn't you just write a check? After all, you're not "lazy", so you may as well do something that takes even longer than swiping or inserting your card.
