I feel like the recent trend of "juicy seafood" and crab boil-in-a-bag type places that have popped up on every corner have severely cut into the Red Lobster clientele.
Yeah, a ton of those chains have opened up in old run down strip centers around Houston. Just noticed some chain called "Crafty Crab" popped up in a bunch of places. And the clientele appears to largely overlap with Red Lobster. Plus a lot of these newer places have full bars.
There were only a few Red Lobsters left around here, all out in less desirable suburbs.

This article is clickbait bullshite, probably paid for by the same PE that ran RL into the ground.
Predatory Private Equity is what doomed Red Lobster.
The kind of people in the article have always been around: why didn’t Red Lobster go out of business years ago, then???
Yea, that’s what I thought.

Josie, 19, who also asked to be anonymous, worked at a (now-shuttered) Kansas City Red Lobster, where she watched a solo diner take down 30 orders of fried shrimp within four hours. According to the nutritional information on Red Lobster’s website, that’s something like 14,000 calories

My in-laws and by association, my wife, love(d) Red Lobster. I fricking hate it.
The one near us wasn't convenient. It wasn't good. Being there, I felt like I was in ... the hood.
But nevertheless. The in-laws would come to visit, and we'd talk about places to eat. We've got every cuisine within a few miles. Top notch locally-owned restaurants. Fresh seafood. But they'd always suggest something like "Red Lobster or Olive Garden." I'm like WTF... Olive Garden is a 30 minute drive, and there's an actual Italian restaurant owned by an Italian family 2 miles from here. Seafood? There's a guy with a few restaurants that gets trucks daily with fresh catch, and you want to drive 30 minutes for lobsterfest?
So, I wasn't sad when "our" Red Lobster was on the list of closures. Good riddance. I am sure the next time we vacation with the in-laws in some coastal town, they will no doubt be looking for a Red Lobster, though.

If you visited one in the last 15 years you'd understand.
We hit one for lunch about 8 or 9 years ago near Katy Mills Mall in Katy. Choices were limited. Family of 5 behind us. I looked over and the waitress had brought them an order of Snow crab legs. Dude was legit cracking them with his teeth and going to town.
Waitress forgot to bring shell cracker and the guy didn't know or didn't care. Food was as I remembered in 10 years earlier... blah. We left and I can say I don't know how they survived this long.

The endless shrimp thing reminds me of this wing place back home. Several guys from the football team would go after practice on Tuesdays for endless wings... The owner told us one time that if you eat over 2 plates the restaurant lost money. I think some guys who played OL ate 9 or 10 plates.

It sounds like a typical day at your local Chinese buffet.
And they’re still in business and doing fine.

I think OG is better than the average chain.
I think it is a remarkable accomplishment to be able to cook "Italian" food with no flavor and somehow make every pasta dish a soggy mess.
