Taking a 40% paycut for your dream job

Pros:

1. Would be home with family more. Currently spend about 6 months per year overseas. New job would still have me gone just as much but in two week blocks as opposed to 2 month blocks.

2. Like the title says...it’s pretty much a dream job.

3. Wouldn’t have to move and would rack up a shitton of airline and hotel points.

Cons:

1. 40% pay cut. Would probably take 5 years to get back to where I am now

2. New job is potentially more susceptible to a downturn in the economy.

What does your wife’s boyfriends schedule look like? Don’t be selfish, think about how you’re effecting everyone involved

Where is the job? Are there bonuses? What will
Jody do now that you are only gone 2 weeks?

Go for the dream job. It's a long game, things work out over time. You'll regret not doing it

I'd do it then.

Taking a 40% cut would be rough if it was the only income supporting the whole family.

GTF out of Africa would be my advice. Life is too short to be flying around that shithole

Everywhere. I’d more than likely hit all 7 continents in the first few years on the job. It’s one of the reasons it’s my dream job.

Yes. Not sure how significant they are yet though. Certainly not enough to make up for the lost income.

What if it’s a 200K pay cut?

Think it just depends on what you're making and what you need to get by. 200>120 would be a lot different than 100>60, or obviously 80>48 especially if you have a working spouse.

Very important if you have kids.

This rarely happens

Where are you at in your life? Can you afford that type of cut? I guess it depends in your lifestyle and what you income level is now.

Just have to weigh your odds on this one.

Company is actually based out of Alaska Roger. I’d be spending a lot of time up there.

It all depends on what check you’d be cutting 40% of.

40% of 100k? No chance

40% of $250k? Maybe

Does the dream job have more room for growth or are you capped out?
