so close to China, how did they do it?
Why didn't more countries follow the Taiwanese model early on?

I'm impressed with how they handled it. It's almost an afterthought.
Though. If there aren't new outbreaks on a large scale in the rioting cities then everything should open up right away.

I’d be livid if I was a small business owner and my place is still having to adhere to the silly mask requirements and 25% capacity rules. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of idiots and criminals destroying cities and looting are cheered on by the media and politicians every night.

The reason that the eastern counties are faring better is that it is unlawful to leave your home without an N95 mask. If you are caught without a mask, you will be slapped by the police and security and sent home. Multiple infractions result in mandatory two week quarantine. Have you never been to the far East? They are not military in China/Thailand.. the army is the military. Police serve to keep the peace, not lead assaults against citizens. Chinese patrolman so not carry guns by default.. they have to be checked out. But their military is ruthless if involved.
