Me too and now Verizon is begging to get me back after they raped me for years.

fwiw - 3 lines with T-Mobile w/ real 5G and 1 new iPhone 14 ProMax is $50 per cheaper per month than just 2 lines with Verizon

Had them until 2010. Had to switch over to Verizon because I didn’t get service with AT&T at my work sites. Verizon for sure has better coverage in some places.

What is everybody's issue with ATT?

Long story, sorry, but its length only mirrors the the tremendous frustration I had to deal with. I went through a nightmare in 2017 with AT&T locking a phone I didn't even buy from them then refusing to unlock it.

I was on AT&T, and decided I wanted to keep my options open in the future, so I bought an unlocked model iPhone from Best Buy. Bought it online, paid full price for it outright, and picked it up in store at customer service. I verified it is the factory unlocked SKU. Got it home and put my AT&T SIM card in. I had no outstanding contract or obligation to AT&T. A few weeks later when I decided to try a different carrier (Verizon's at the time brand new Unlimited plan), the number ported over to Verizon but the phone was inexplicably locked to AT&T, meaning my phone was suddenly rendered useless as porting the number out deactivates the AT&T SIM card.

Since I had no working phone I had to go to the AT&T store and talk to them, they agree my phone shouldn't be locked, but of course they couldn't do anything. I demanded they let me use their store phone to call the AT&T customer service number so that I could have someone unlock it. I explained the situation and they told me I am right, my phone shouldn't be locked, but it would be unlocked within 24 hours. Next day I received an email saying my unlock request was denied, saying I need to fulfill a contract. I don't have one. Went back to the AT&T store, called them again, they said it must have been in error, my phone really shouldn't be locked, they will put in another unlock request and escalate it this time. Next day, denial email again. Same reason stated. For a third time, I went back to the AT&T store, called them again, they said they'd put in another unlock request and this time it'll be a super special escalation and they promised it would be unlocked. And no, they couldn't put me on the line with anyone who could actually make the decision to unlock so I could explain to them. Again, next day got an email saying it was denied.

This went on for like two weeks. Nobody at AT&T can tell me who to talk to for actual resolution. I contacted a friend I know who works at an AT&T call center doing support. She didn't know what to do, she asked her manager, he didn't know what to do. I felt I was stuck in some Kafkasque bureaucratic nightmare where everyone I speak with agrees I'm right but no one can do anything. Meanwhile the store manager sympathized with my situation and gave me a free 1 month prepaid GoPhone SIM card with a new number so that I could at least have a goddamn phone that can make and receive calls and I wouldn't have to keep coming back and bothering people in his store and tying up his phone. I also tried the Apple Store and Apple support line, since technically it's their locking system that in turn honors entries AT&T's locking system and illegitimate entries, just trying every avenue, to no avail.

In the end I had to put in an FCC complaint and got in contact with the Investor Relations Executive support to get it resolved. The woman I spoke to asked for my phone's receipt as proof and immediately unlocked it. She acknowledged she is aware this is a problem that happens sometimes and that their system will lock some unlocked phones in particular scenarios when it shouldn't.

I will never do business with AT&T again as long as I can help it, unfortunately they have by far the best product with their fiber internet though so I do still have that....

Use Xfinity. No complaints. At&t forced me to give up my BlackBerry. Wasn't about to reward it.

Long story, sorry, but its length only mirrors the the tremendous frustration I had to deal with. I went through a nightmare in 2017 with AT&T locking a phone I didn't even buy from them then refusing to unlock it.

I had them sell me phones that were Buy one/Get one. Cool. I did and got the phones.

I rolled the cost into the bill. Well, first bill comes and they have both phones on it. I call, and they say they will take care of it and they credited my account. Second bill came and I was still charged for the free phone. I called and had the same thing happen. That happend four months straight.

I then went to the store. They were so very helpful and said it was taken care of. Next bill comes and it has the same charge on it.

I called (actually I use the chat because 9/10 people who work in the call center can't speak fluent English) and this time they ask where I got the phones. I told them I bought them in an AT&T store. I immediately get kicked from the chat only to have my phone ring with a person barely able to speak English on it saying she's with AT&T. I dealt with her for a half hour in which she accused me of having stole the phones. She point blank said as much. I told her to put her manager on the phone. That guy implied the same thing.

I eventually, after an hour and a half on the phone and a half hour on chat, got transferred to some American jackass. He finally informed me that I had been sold phones on a BOGO deal that weren't actually on sale, despite being told they were and despite paperwork saying they were. He told me that he couldn't help me because they could only credit an account $100 max at one time and that I'd need to go to the store.

I went to the store. I talked to the useless cocksucker who dickered the sale and his boss. The first guy was no help. The manager assured me the problem was their fault and it would be fixed.

The next bill came, and you guessed it......the charge was still there.

By that time I was tired of dealing with it. I gave up and paid for the phone.

This, and multiple other problems including TV and Internet, are why I mean it when I say frick AT&T and every useless piece of shite who works for them, even Lily.

To get to $300 at T-Mobile you must’ve been paying for phones through them. So it’s not really apples to apples when you then trade in those phones for free ones on AT&T.

And what discounts do you get at AT&T? I’m genuinely curious.

Been with ATT since singular days. We were grandfathered in to the unlimited data. ATT works well for my cell and business.

We were only paying for two phones, the other three were paid off.

I guess there is a discount through Sam's Club and another for being a medical professional.

Those must be some incredible discounts because the cheapest plan on their website is $175 for 5 lines. Which is almost exactly what T-Mobile is for 5 lines unlimited.

So again, you shopped discounts for AT&T and had about $100 in phone payments on T-Mobile. It’s not even close to an apples to apples comparison.
