100% first thing i thought of when read the article. It absolutely sucks for that place because it is more a rich white women spot

The rest of the businesses around there are going to do ok. That CVS across the street is where i bought booze until i turned 21.

They probably interviewed the daughter of the Calvin’s owners, who owns Basel’s Market. It’s a very small cafe/bistro in a cute old house attached to this building. Her only parking is the small lot of this building. I assume her place is owned by the same person who owns this building, based on the line about understanding his need for tenants.

If this happens, I feel bad for Basel's Market. That is a nice little spot and a good place to take guests. I don't think there is any way possible that Basel's survives in that location attached to a frat house. I can't see well-heeled little old ladies from the surrounding nice neighborhoods parking in a frat house parking lot to go get brunch.

The residential neighbors aren't THAT far away. Once the frat house starts blaring the subwoofers at 1:00 a.m. on a Tuesday, they'll sure make a lot of friends fast.

BRPD would probably see noise complaints about them as a cash cow.

After college, I had a frat move in right next to me near Catholic High. I was so glad when they moved back out of there and back to campus.

Lol alcohol poisoning and suicides are just boys being boys yeah?

So the pledges get held with zero responsibility? It’s an absolute shame that some assholes in fraternities ruin what is normally good times by going rogue, but don’t be naive in thinking there aren’t deaths by alcohol poisoning occurring off campus. How many students haven’t touched alcohol once before getting to college and just simply don’t know their limits.

Who would rent a house to a fraternity? How do you possibly insure something like that?

The same way all landlords for college student housing get insured (and how fraternity houses in general get insured).

Our fraternity house was not that crazy outside of home football game nights. I'll admit we had some huge parties with live bands. I doubt that would catch on that far off campus anyway though. It worked for us because you can walk directly from a night game to a party. Even for early games where you went home, then went to the party, they were always dead. We were also obviously next to all the other houses and I had more issues with noise in regular apartments while in school.

The issue is going to mostly be for the landlord. First groups through will take care of it, because they worked to get it secured. But by the time year 5 comes around, it's going to be wrecked. When spring semester came around and pledges weren't available to clean, it got disgusting fast

I would rather the frat house than the smoke shops that have opened up around there.

You'd think that if they were having issues with hazing, alcohol poisoning, and suicide their national office might want to be involved in securing off campus housing in order to provide a little "risk management" oversight. Here's a brief bio and contact information for the person who should be closely involved in this. -

The only reason the smoke shops and other trash businesses are there is because of all the section 8 apartments nearby and nearby by car.

Personally I would take being the Vanderbilt of the SEC West if the University and boosters would take some of that money and start buying apartments to demolish and perhaps rebuild focusing on benefitting the LSU community.

Is this a wild frat?

I'm assuming this will kind of just be for social events.

Mississippi, but most southern states likely had similar laws at the state or local level.

I imagine there are some kind of zoning laws that prevent that many unrelated people from living together in one house, but I could be wrong

this was said to be a thing. Not many people were willing to rent a house to 5 people that met in college.

Even when i was looking at places further down highland i was stopped one time and some old lady said they didnt want college students moving into their neighborhood.
i told them i was gay looking for a nice spot for me and my partner to raise a family, she was even more shocked then.
