Bang and drink Miller Lite under it during the day.

Let it catch dew/condensation/rain at night.

Use the natural resources of the island for shelter. Obviously!

When it's raining you catch the rain. When it's sunny you catch some shade. How is this even a question?

I draw from the freshwater spring on the island, build a proper shelter, and use the umbrella to shield me from the sun.

Duh.

Detatch the vinyl from the umbrella, dig out a hole and put down the vinyl to catch rain. Then use the metal to an arrow head attatched go a piece of bamboo as a solid spear or knife.

Get food first build shelter second signal for help third. I would build a huge arse fire so soneone could see me from a helicopter or plane.

I'd convert Pokey (my nickname for her is "Umbrella") back to the D and bang on the drum all day. I don't want to work.

Or I'd text an umbrella repairman to come fix my broken umbrella and steal his car/boat/helo/float plane once he gets there.

I would walk over to the Professor's hut and ask him which option is best...Then I would go bang Ginger or MaryAnn.

For shelter I would have Brooke Shields build me one of those three story palm frond mansions like she did in The Blue Lagoon.

For catching water in the umbrella I would hope it is the rainy season. It seldom rains in the dry season. Once again, I would defer to Brooke's expertise since she was able to prosper for years in this same scenario.

I would use the pointy end to gouge my eyes out so I wouldn't have to read stupid fricking threads like this one.

There's a bunch of things you can do with an umbrella in a survival situation...

The spines can be sharpened for spearfishing...
The outside hemline can be used for fishing...
You can make 6-8 water bags from the material...
Use the shaft to knock coconuts
You can use the spines to scrape kindling if there aren't many good rocks...
Obviously if the umbrella is light in color, or contrasts with the sand, it can be used to signal...
If you can makeshift a raft, and find enough vines, an open umbrella would make an excellent sea anchor, which will put you in the ocean current and increase likelihood of survival...

There are few common items Id probably rather have in a survival situation...manipulating water is a huge advantage

I'd use the umbrella as my island girlfriend, and i'd call her rihanna, and when that night comes where the wind is blowing hard, and i'm going to town on her and she suddenly opens up and blows away, never to be seen again, i'll cry my eyes out yelling RIHANNA as she flys out into the open seas.

I would definitely use it as a rain catch.
