I'll never forget the PBS Frontline Hit Piece they ran...

Pulled out emotional sob stories of kids and education, PhDs from west coast universities, etc. to support "together".

For St. George they basically had an 80yr old man in-front of his garage holding a St. George sign.

Not in one second of the entire episode did they mention, interview or consult an expert on other incorporated areas in the US that have done this successfully. I mean, there are LITERALLY people who have done this before...not one mention of it or how it went.

It was such one sided BS, I had no opinion on St. George before but that entire episode of one sided emotional ploy BS made me want them to succeed.

You'd think all the cities we have in the US now were incorporated when the Pilgrim's landed and that the SG movement was some kind of revolution.

New cities pop up all the time.

It is because BR afford to lose the tax base of this area.

I think she is confusing her "vetting" with their huge withdrawal effort results.

From the St. George FB Page:
quote:

After further review: Of the 23 removals submitted 6 signed then removed, 2 are not in St. George, and 15 never signed the petition. They also turned in 6 more today. Because, as you suspect, they don’t believe laws and rules apply to them.

They'll still have to fight it in court.
BR can't afford to lose the budget because they refuse to consider cutting spending.

Just like the road tax the mayor wants will have a construction mgmt firm in charge of making sure the projects go forward.

The MoveBR commercials do not mention this.

I wonder why?

This is the same mayor who is warning SGeans about paying higher taxes.

Broome said the management firm would decide which project goes first. Why is that? Managing projects is not the same as planning and strategy.
Any good plan would be laid out to do the most good quickly and projects would tie together to alleviate problems as quickly as possible.

Higher taxes isn't always a bad thing. Especially if it means better schools than what EBR is offering.
$5k per kid per year and it's about break even.

Plus, it's not required. One could always move.

Wrong.

EBRPSS has repeatedly proven that despite spending more than the national average person student, it still can't even deliver average results. It's not a money problem.

And the initial incorporation of SG doesn't involve the school district.

The incorporation of St. George is based on citizens wanting to actually govern themselves and use their taxes to better their area since the City of BR does not provide them with fire, police, etc. Part of bettering the area is to provide better schools than what the City of Baton Rouge has put out.

5k. I'm guessing you don't have a kid in private school

Just spit balling here.
People whine about SG getting higher taxes.
Will the taxes really go up as much as it costs to send kids to private school?
That's really the break even point.

Otherwise, the options are to move to a decent school district or go pay private tuition.
