OUACHITA PARISH, La (KNOE) - Stores in Ouachita Parish like Randall's Fine Meats are selling more than just food and gas Sunday. It's also selling alcohol.
"We've had probably 12 to 15 sales already and we didn't have to tell them no," Randall Garbin, the owner, said.
The Ouachita Parish Police Jury now allows Sunday alcohol sales between noon and 10 p.m.
The vote spiked business owners interest.
"What really excites me about this is I have the same opportunity to offer my customer that walks through my door, the same thing that Sterlington and Richwood and the city of Monroe has been able to offer their customers on Sunday," Garbin said.
But, this sale not only goes to Randall's pockets, it helps Ouachita Parish.
"Sales tax wise, we pay somewhere between $75,000 to $80,000 a year collected," Garbin said.
The police jury said the money funds road projects, the parish fire department and helps keep public works operating.

Taxation is theft.

Parish wide...except city limits of West Monroe. You could buy in Monroe...but it was prohibited in the outlying Parish places. Really needed doing because wasn't fair to vendors outside the city limits. West Monroe still holding out....presumably for religious purposes.....

Is that just at restaurants or can people buy liquor from a store and take it home?

I’ve always been able to buy alcohol in Monroe on Sundays. Thought it was just a West Monroe thing to not sell on sundays

I remember having to go to richwood to buy beer. You could also by cassette tapes and CDs from a dude selling them out of back of his Lincoln town car in the gas station parking lot

Southern Baptists preachers will be visiting ERs there all week for blood pressure ailments.
Time to bring back the snake handlers.

Baptists clutching their pearls if the dreaded drink is able to be sold on Jesus’ day

I used to be a church going man, but once they started selling beer on Sunday in Shreveport I said "frick it. I'm staying home and drinking."
