The problem with online dating in small to mid-size towns is everyone knows everyone.. Coupled with the online stigma, you're leaning toward the more desperate in the dating pool.
It's a bit different in large cities where you have a lot of transplants, new to town and no friends, work 60 hours a week, etc.
The ratio of fats to hots on there is still pretty high in big cities though. Although Houston is probably about the same as IRL.

On match, I saw a bunch of girls I already knew. On some other site, I saw a few and messed with them. Even ended up railing one of them because of it. Hadn't spoken to her in years

Man, this thread is depressing for those of us about to get back into the game. I thought about signing up for match and/or christian mingle. I browsed match and saw a lot of sexy females. Where I live may have something to do with the better ratio though.

Every chick that I talked to or hung out with just said guys wouldn't say anything and just send dick pics.

Well I know the OT is full of its share of idiots but TBH the fact that most of us are decent at e-communications, all it takes is being decent to them. For starters, don't come out the gate messaging shite like I post here.
Show an interest in their job, kids, meeting in a DECENT public place for a drink. The vineyard or spanky's is a red flag.
I have about 10 gal friends who have told me exactly what the majority of dudes do.
1. ask them to come over and 'hang out' and watch a movie for first meeting/date.
2. ask for nudes
3. send them nudes.
It's not hard to be normal and stand out.

It shouldn't be. I know several people who have met SOs on dating sites. If you strictly want someone who is hot, then you are going to face the same competition online that you face IRL. Everybody wants to bang the hot chick. That's universal whether online, in class, or at a bar.

Exactly. I'm encouraging anyone who's single to try out POF in BR area before paying on a site.
Two very decent looking women frains of mine who are educated medical professionals have snagged good men in last few months. And these women could EASILY turn heads in a 30 something crowd. But both have kids and work a LOT. So they pick their nights out/dates wisely and not usually out on a drink special night at Bar Louie.

Met my g/f of a year and a half now on Match.com. It definitely has to do with where you live. Here in Tampa, there were boat loads of hot chicks on the site. When I looked at New Orleans just for the hell of it, wasn't quite the same at all. I also went on 2 dates from chicks from POF, both were hot too, and both smashed. One actually became a regular and was great for a couple months. If you're looking for something serious though, definitely check out Match. A lot more classy women on there, A LOT more.
