Do Not get a weiner dog, unless you want to replace every thing in your house. Little fricker, has left bite marks on every single thing

Are these family friendly? Was one of the breeds sticking out in my mind.

Should fit the bill for you perfectly. I assume the dog is going to stay inside? Socialize the dog early, pick from a reputable breeder, take some time with the breeder letting him/her know what personality you are looking for in the dog. In general female GSDs are more person/pack protective, and males are more place protective. I've had one of each and both have had great temperaments, but male perhaps marginally more standoffish to new folks, but follows my body language in becoming comfortable with new people and situations.

I hate dachshunds with a friggin passion. One of my ex's in college had one and it would sleep in the bed but it would get between us. God forbid I touch her or accidentally roll over the dog. It would get vicious. frick those dogs

When mine were young they did A bit of this... Not as much as I was told they would do... Now they are great.. Got a male and A female.. Brother and sister.. They never go outside except going to the vet... I WISH someone would attempt to come in unwelcomed.. Those dogs would tear them up....

Less than 90 pounds? American Staffordshire Terrier, Belgian Malinois, Standard Poodle, Female Standard Schnauzer.

Just make sure you know what you're doing. Not everyone is meant to own protective breeds

Good info. Someone suggested the shelter in a previous post and that would serve better as I could get an immediate large dog for protection, but I'd like to get the dog as a pup to train and like you say, learn my body language in regards to my interactions with others.

Mine still sleeps in his kennel. My cousin has one, and he let it sleep with him. Woke up one morning and all he had was the elastic wasteband left around his waist. Fricker chewed off his boxers

Rhodesian ridgeback

Mine is 135 lbs, veins sticking out of his chest and shoulders. I describe him as Terrell Owens as a dog. He's a bad mofo.

My weiner dog was the baddest sumbitch God ever put on 4 legs. He killed everything that moved. He caught wild rabbits.
He also never failed to find a deer that ran after being shot. People looked at me like I was crazy telling them about my blood trailing weiner dog

Make that Giant Schnauzer and you nailed it. We have two and love the breed and no one is coming through my front door without my permission.
