Sucks that Dogs can’t live forever

Had to put my baby down tonight. 15 years with her.
Hardest thing ever riding to the vet holding her knowing what was coming.
Brought her back home and dug the hole myself. Least I could do for her.
Got me through the hardest times and rocked with me in the best times.

They only make you sad one day of their life

I have a 2.5 year old basset hound and a 6 year old bloodhound boys and I had a dream last night that there was some gunner runner around shooting shite up and my hounds were trying to get after him and he shot my basset. I spent half the day bummed out from that nightmare lol lots of good boys out there but man, hounds are family to the core. They keep our home safe, no one is climbing our fence at night and us not hear about it. Plus no one wants to step to a 4 foot tall, 7 foot long bloodhound. He's killed coyotes on midnight strolls.

I have a mini dachshund who is coming up on 10. She's my best buddy. Sometimes I look at her and just know she's going to break my heart one day when that time comes. I'd do it all again though in a heartbeat.

I know I post this in every one of these threads but it’s one of the truest quotes I’ve ever read
“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion.
There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.” – Dean Koontz
I’m very sorry for your loss

Yes, yes they are. I'm so grateful that my 14-year-old basset passed away naturally at home with my wife there and I never had to make that tough decision to put him down.

It’s a tough night.
We have two other dogs doing a damn fine job of keeping us cheerful, but Pepper was MY first dog. Didn’t have to share her.
She was there when the 2 people closest to me passed away and she was there when I met the love of my life. The dang dog ended up loving her far more than me but darn it… I held her when she was a puppy I was gonna hold her when she passed on.

Who would feed them when humans became extinct?

Sorry for your loss. I’m rolling with a 10 y/o and a 2 y/o retriever. I’ll be crushed when they go. Hopefully a long way off for both. You did the right thing and gave the respect that was deserved.
