For context: I am a student in New Orleans and live there during the school year, but my car is registered in Baton Rouge.

Why tf do I have to get a new brake tag in EBR when New Orleans is in Louisiana too? Why can’t you get a Louisiana registered vehicle inspected anywhere you want in Louisiana? Why is there a need for different brake tags in Louisiana depending on where your vehicle is registered?

The only good thing that is going to come out of this situation is feeling slightly safer whenever I vacuum my automobile out after.

Have to have stronger brakes to avoid the potholes and carjackers.

Orleans has a cut out where if your car is registered there, you have to get a braketag there. If your car is registered in BR, you just need a state inspection sticker.

Did you also get a braketag?

Or do yo need a new inspection sticker?

ETA: Was corrected. You have to go back to EBR, Ascension, Livingston, Iberville.

You don't even need a license plate in Nola and you are worried about a brake tag?

You should be thankful too, because I’m pretty sure the rest of the state ones are cheaper than New Orleans special ‘carve out’ tags.

Don't kid yourself. A multi-felon murders four people and NOPD could give a shite. But the chance to fine a student $400 for a traffic violation? They are on that double time.

EPA emission tests here for one thing.

Also, it's an inspection sticker--it doesn't go on the brakes...

Leave it alone, them's don't steal cars without inspection stickers. Bring a bucket of leaves to put on your car when you park. They will think it does not run.

$50 cash will solve your problem quickly at a few unmentionable inspection places.

They are supposed to check your lights, brakes, windshield. General safety shite. Usually they just slap the tag on without checking much of anything.

Car is registered in Baton Rouge which is one of the 5 or 6 Parishes that have the emission law and charge $18 instead of $10. They have to put the sniffer up his car's tailpipe and test the gas cap for leaks.

How many inspection stations perform this checklist
quote:

The vehicle must be test driven to inspect the following items:
Brakes - The vehicle shall be driven at 20 MPH and the brakes applied slowly.
Speedometer/Odometer
Mirrors, outside and inside rearview
Seat Belts
Steering Mechanism - Must be original type steering wheel with no excessive play, binding, or tightness
Floor Pan - No holes or rusted area are allowed in the passenger compartment
Parking Brakes

I've never paid for an inspection sticker outside of buying a new vehicle.
Rip it off and don't look back.
Even if I got a ticket now, after driving for 27 years, I'm up on the state in this department. I've gotten my share of speeding tickets and not once did they look at my windshield.
ETA: this is not legal advice nor a guarantee yo won't get a ticket.
