Everything I've read and watched seems to indicate that supplements and sunlight take time to be processed/activated (most notably in the liver).

That is because your body and supplements make Cholecalciferol which needs to be activated into calcifediol.

LINK
quote:

Calcifediol, also known as calcidiol, 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, or 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (abbreviated 25(OH)D3),[1] is a prehormone that is produced in the liver by hydroxylation of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) by the enzyme cholecalciferol 25-hydroxylase. This metabolite is measured, together with 25(OH)D2 (ercalcifediol), to determine an individual's vitamin D status.[2][3] At a typical daily intake of vitamin D3, its full conversion to calcifediol takes approximately 7 days.[4] Calcifediol has a elimination half-life of around 11 days; it stays in the blood by holding onto vitamin D-binding protein.[5]

Calcifediol is then converted in the kidneys (by the enzyme 25(OH)D-1a-hydroxylase) into calcitriol (1,25-(OH)2D3), a secosteroid hormone that is the active form of vitamin D. It can also be converted into 24-hydroxycalcidiol in the kidneys via 24-hydroxylation.[6][7]

You can be out in the sun all day every day and still be Vitamin D deficient. I know from first hand experience.

Couldn’t it just be as simple as people that don’t spend any time in the sun are also pretty damn unhealthy?

What obese person gets a ton of vitamin D from sunlight

I always thought Trump should just come out and say "take a vitamin D supplement every day and get 30 minutes of sunlight". Im sure he would've been ripped for suggesting it though.

Oh I can just imagine the headlines...

"Trump continues class warfare by suggesting poor people can afford vitamin D supplements. They can't."

"Trump defies science - again - and claims vitamins will cure covid."

"Trump confuses the word 'vaccine' with 'vitamins.'"

"Trump endangers millions by suggesting everyone go outside together."

"Latest Trump dog whistle includes vitamin supplements that are best for white people."

"Lifestyles of the rich, Trump, and famous: the ability to spend 30 minutes outside instead of working 3 jobs."

I feel like this has been known from the earliest days of this but has never gotten enough attention.

I started a new nutrition plan on 3/6/20 specifically to correct a vitamin D deficiency.

Have a thread about it on health board.

Technically obese but body fat percentage is at 23-27% depending upon time of year.

10 months out of the year I'm tanner than the average Mexican. 2 months I'm ghostly white.

Yard work.

Also, correlation doesn’t equal causation. To start, over 50% of people are vitamin d deficient. And usually, when you get sick, your levels drop. So while there is not harm in supplementing vitamin D, I don’t think it’s really what is driving this

Was coming to post this. I’ve seen studies that 60%+ of nursing home patients are deficient on a regular basis.

I’ve read numerous articles about zinc being the most crucial of them all. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

From all I’ve read, it is in the sense of it being critical to protecting cell walls, a virtual force field of sorts to protect us. I’ve been taking it as well.

Any word on vitamin D deficiency in the general population for a comparison?

I will forever believe in Vit. D and it’s effect on our immune systems.

I also believe that only taking the vitamins is not the same. Natural sunlight triggers your body to do things the vitamins alone don’t.

This right here. The medical bureaucrats and politicians were so worried about the homeless and covid. Guess what, it didn't affect them b/c they were outside all of the time, not to mention moving around constantly. The idiots that laid up in their residences/apartments and became sedate were prime for this virus. Moral of the story, get out and about and get some sunshine.

quote:

Vitamin D deficiency is a global public health issue. About 1 billion people worldwide have vitamin D deficiency, while 50% of the population has vitamin D insufficiency.[1] The prevalence of patients with vitamin D deficiency is highest in the elderly, obese patients, nursing home residents, and hospitalized patients. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was 35% higher in obese subjects irrespective of latitude and age.[7] In the United States, about 50% to 60% of nursing home residents and hospitalized patients had vitamin D deficiency. [8][9] Vitamin D deficiency may be related to populations who have higher skin melanin content and who use extensive skin coverage, particularly in Middle Eastern countries. In the United States, 47% of African American infants and 56% of Caucasian infants have vitamin D deficiency, while over 90% of infants in Iran, Turkey, and India have vitamin D deficiency. In the adult population, 35% of adults in the United States are vitamin D deficient whereas over 80% of adults in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh are Vitamin D deficient. In the United States, 61% of the elderly population is vitamin D deficient whereas 90% in Turkey, 96% in India, 72% in Pakistan, and 67% in Iran were vitamin D deficient.

I have Vitamin D deficiency due to a gastro issue and a family history of skin cancer (I wear sunscreen frequently). Just getting sun isn't enough, so I take a prescription supplement.
