It’s the scientists’ and surgeon general’s opinion.

I'd like to see a direct quote from the surgeon general

In an interview on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Monday, Adams said wearing face masks could actually increase a person's risk of contracting the coronavirus.

"You can increase your risk of getting it by wearing a mask if you are not a health care provider," Adams said. "Folks who don't know how to wear them properly tend to touch their faces a lot and actually can increase the spread of coronavirus," he added.

Adams' comments Monday reiterate his blaring tweet from the weekend, urging people to "STOP BUYING MASKS." He said that they were "NOT effective" to the general public and noted that the increased demand in masks puts medical professionals at risk.

I went to PetSmart yesterday and the checkout girl was wearing a clothe mask and gloves. While I was waiting in line, she must have tugged on that mask 10 times. She didn't change gloves between transactions. So what really was the point of wearing the mask? Other than the fact that her work made her?

I picked up lunch today, and the kid behind the counter was also constantly touching and rearranging his mask. Finally he said "frick this" and pulled the thing off.

Do you really need me to explain his real reasoning here?

Uh oh. Are you about to use your “common sense” again? And not actual quotes or data or expert opinions?

if you want to use the Surgeon General in this, I can post numerous quotes as to why they changed the recommendations

"There may be a day where we change our recommendation, particularly for areas that have large spread going on, about wearing cotton masks but again the data is not there yet," said Adams.

Also noticed you left out this nugget
quote:

People who are sick should wear masks, said Adams, but acknowledged that if healthy people feel better by wearing a mask, "by all means, wear it" but they should not touch their faces.

Because the data not being there makes it pointless for healthy people to wear a mask. It has been proven time and time again that cloth mask do not prevent the spread of the virus

I literally said this was when the OP scientists also suggested to wear them. People showing symptoms and in short stints. Want me to quote my post?

Seems eerily similar to something we've heard before...

Has it been proven they don't reduce the spread? No one is claiming 100% prevention.

So where is your proof that wearing them is worse again?

well the entire point of asking everyone to wear a mask is to catch all the presymptomatic and asymptomatic people

quote:

It has been proven time and time again that cloth mask do not prevent the spread of the virus

It has been proven that they help reduce the spread, in varied degrees

I don't think anyone has argued that wearing masks completely stops the spread

The OP. Not the same place as your proof that wearing them incorrectly is better than not wearing them at all. “Common sense”.

How so?

The first line of OP:

"We do not recommend requiring the general public who do not have symptoms of COVID-19-like illness to routinely wear cloth or surgical masks"

Many people do not have symptoms but carry virus and infect others. If first sentence is wrong then why should anything else they say be trusted?
