The generation that save the world from Hitler was spanked.

If a child continually fricks up and requires spankings to influence their behavior, they've probably got mental illness problems in the first place.
Maybe this study should conclude, "mentally ill children get more spankings".

Causation and correlation.
The study determined that the more you're spanked, the more likely you are to develop mental illness. Why can't it be the other way around? The more likely you are to have mental illness, the more likely you are to be spanked as a child.

I agree with this. I'm not too impressed with anything that comes out of universities these days.
And yes I am a college graduate. I graduated magna cum laude.
