I made that much with my internships each summer, and I was able to live at home for one of them. Good business internships pay 18/hr-25/hr. (Essentially what you’re paying)

Why would college kids go spray pesticides when one can goto Jackson Hole and bus tables or teach fly fishing during the summer.

Kids these are are UNRELIABLE. They just do whatever they want in the moment. Fly by the seat of their pants. I’ve noticed this. I hire a lot of young college aged kids too and it’s hard to find reliable ones that aren’t going to flake out. Lot of kids don’t want to work hard and do not care about pay. They rather be poor and get off at 4pm and work no nights or weekends to become the top dog.

Hard to get them to do that.
Most companies around here have started hiring almost exclusively in Utah. Those Mormons are adventurous, self reliant and will stick to their contract.
Kids from the South and East don't work out as often.

Hire you some Eastern European J-1 students. They work their asses off, usually at two jobs in the summer and save all their money. I've had really good luck with them.

A couple of the cruise lines train and hire in SLC. You'll have more success there than anywhere in the US.

Not to be too Reagan-y, but it’s a trickle down effect all across the collegiate labor pool. The labor pool is so hot that it’s even affecting this market.
My old firm could hire people as recently as two years ago for nothing just on the name and the kind of work we were doing. Not the case now. Talent is getting more expensive, even collegiate talent, and it’s having a knock on effect up and down the labor pool.
