If you have the balls to do sales and actually hive a shite, you can put down 20-50k for the summer. If you're actually good, 50-100k. I was making 50-60k a year as a student.

Because depending on the work load in certain areas, they may move. If Raleigh is busy and Tulsa is slow, I move a guy from Tulsa to Raleigh. That saves a ton of money.
Local guys don't get paid as much as the ones we can move.

When I was in college, there were a lot of kids whose parents didn’t make them (or even allow them to) work because they believed school was their job. So that might be part of it.
I need 1-2 college students every year to work ~4 months for very good pay, any hours they want, and they can literally wear yoga pants. I asked a cousin to see if her friends wanted a cush job doing this with me and not a single one did. Their parents don’t make them work.

I used to do the same. I would hire rafting guides and kayak guides, and had to stop doing national searches because it was a waste of time. Most of the ones I ended up hiring were from Utah, everyone else seemed to get cold feet. It wasn't this way 20 years ago

The summer workload is 60-70% higher than the rest of the year. Keeping a guy for the whole year costs way more than paying somebody a lot for a summer.
I have full time guys that can handle everything for the rest of the year.

That sounds like a nice gig and all, but here’s an example:
I went to LSU. I am from South Texas. My summers were either going to be spent back home in Texas, or at the off campus house with my friends in BR. I umpired baseball games over the summer for cash in BR, I bussed tables at a restaurant at home. Either way, I had friends around.
Not sure why I would randomly want to go to another city. I realize there’s more money to be had, but summer for me was a time to be with friends.

Service technician for pest control company. Drive a company truck, spray around houses, educate my clients.
Preventive maintenance, generally upper middle class homes in nice neighborhoods. No crazy stuff like those fools on tv

This. Not even just interns but anyone who's worth at least half a damn is in hot demand. A lot of employers who treated employees like shite are suddenly finding themselves stuck with convicts, losers, and arses while their previous employees are moving on to greener pastures.

Seen the change myself man. The younger guys in our company hardly ever volunteer for out of town work and almost every one of them is bitching to come home after a week of being out. Not like it used to be. When I was coming up, out of town work was my bread and butter. Make more money and see the country. Excellent for young singles. Got to see a lot of this country and learn to be self reliant.

People are pussies.
A few years ago, I was working for a Nuclear Consulting firm. The Turkey Point site south of Miami (directly east of Homestead and on the coast) was looking for 11 Civil Engineers from my office in Atlanta for temporary assignment at the facility.
Turkey Point paid $3000/mo per diem to each person and your salary. Most of the guys were $75K-$90K per year.
No one was wanting to go. I looked at them like they were a group of morons. 3-4 of them could rent a place together and share all bills and easily pocket $2000+ month tax free on top of their normal salary.
..and they would be working 30-45 min south of Miami and about 30 min north of Key Largo.
