There should be no more gov student loans. They own you and will f up your life until paid. College education should be affordable to begin with, or free, for those who qualify academically. I wish everyone would say no and refuse to pay back. What will they do to that many at once? It’s hard to care whether they get their money back when sending billions of our dollars to foreign countries while Americans are in dire straights.

You could have been making interest free payments for the last couple of years.

Dire straights? Because they can’t afford their 65k automobile note and live in a 450k house while making 50K a year?

How much is your loan? What car do you drive?

You gotta pay them loans baw.
I was "fortunate" insofar as I was able to pay mine back quickly. During my first deployment to Iraq I was able to pay 3-4K a month because we had nothing to spend money on while over there and I paid everything off in a year.

You took advantage of three years with no interest by making payments to bring your balance down, right?

I don’t think loans should be forgiven. We can have a discussion about fixing the system going forward, but everyone has to pay what they’ve agreed to pay.
BUT, if they are forgiven, I want a check. I paid mine off like millions of other people have. Current loan holders shouldn’t get the comparative advantage of having theirs forgiven.

Now that life continues to get harder with rates going up in every aspect of our lives then they finally decide “It’s time to start paying back student loans!” No drop in interest there btw. My bills are now borderline above my income monthly! frick this crooked government sideways! I should literally just say duck the federal government and not pay cuz I feel like I’ve already paid them back honestly
lol

I' kind of scratching my head how you're in this predicament. You probably took the loans out when interest rates were a lot lower. They're more than likely fixed. Then, we've had fairly significant inflation, and wages have by and large adjusted for that, so you should have more money to pay for the loans. The payments should be a lower percentage of your income now than it was a decade ago.

how many college kids you you think really understands what they are signing up for?
And they are going to college? Maybe we should rethink this.
You are an adult. Be one.

You took the loan. You should pay it back. Our country cant afford this.
Having said that, its time to send a trillion dollars to both Ukraine and Israel.

I’ve got about 100k for my Bachelor/Masters. Have not paid back and plan to never pay it back. I believe I just enrolled in the save program or something where I have $0 payments for the next 20 years. Screw it.

Good luck with that.

You've had an opportunity to pay down the principal interest free for 3 years which could have saved thousands on interest, why didn't you take advantage?
Posted on 10/25/23 at 7:39 am to mattchewbocca
You’re bitching because they’re making you pay back money you borrowed?
How bout you calculate the loan payment into your bills even when you didn’t have to pay it? Or put the payment in savings while you didn’t have to pay. Or maybe just pay the damn loan and not live outside your means.
