It’s a DO school, so different from the other LA schools.

With all the cuts in education funding, why in the world is the state of LA building a third med school?

It’s being run by a private school from VA.

It’s Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. They started in Blacksburg at VaTech. Have schools in Spartanburg, SC and at Auburn. Arkansas and Alabama just got 2 new DO schools in the last few years. DO’s are expanding everywhere. It won’t be state funded.

why would a welding/carpentry school try to get in the medical field anyway?

Their Pharn school is top notch

They become a D.O., Doctor of Osteopathy, rather than an M.D. I think Osteopaths train more on alternative/natural remedies than MDs, but I'm not sure about the other training differences. I read a book authored by a DO who was battalion surgeon for a Marine battalion assaulting Fallujah. He covered the training differences, but I don't recall most of the details. However, in his opinion, DOs are "real" doctors.

There’s a ton of land in Monroe they could have built on and the pharm school is already off campus. Why couldn’t this be off campus?

I’m not saying the grove is more important than a med school, that’s ridiculous, but I think this could have been done differently. The groves one of the few things ULM football has going for it tradition wise (or anything wise).

Also all the people shite talking ulm academics shows how much the university needs to change its pr strategy. There’s so many great things going on at the university and the administration that’s in place has done an amazing job of growing the university from an academics standpoint. Yes Monroe is a shithole but ULM really is a great place to earn a degree from. I know that hasn’t always been the case but still.

The Grove is nice but it hate it that both of their fans will be uprooted from their tailgating spot & have to move somewhere else.

They need a way to get doctors to stay in rural north Louisiana more than ULM needs tail gate spots.

What's going to be important is rotation sites. They can't all do that in Monroe.

Because we need more doctors?

Solid move IMO. Whoever builds a med school will absolutely fill it and probably generate a growth in their overall admissions.

A state of four million people doesn't need four medical schools.

Here is my take on this thread. All the elitist LSU folks bash ULM, not to be confused with ULL. Y'all bash anybody but LSU.

I love LSU. I am a loyal LSU fan. I was not able to attend LSU, none the less I'm still all LSU.

You elitist tend to knock anyone who did not attend LSU but you discard the fact that thousands of us out here who had to attend a regional college/university or less than you.

You cocksuckers are the reason people turn on LSU because of your elitist attitude.

Fortunately there are those like me who attended another school are still LSU fans and we spend our money, maybe more, on LSU than you hide behind the computer sons of bitches.
