5 year restraining order to silence speech and religion in America

This kind of flew under the radar, but just in case you’re at least a little concerned with the scary direction this country is going in when it comes to our inalienable rights in the Constitution of the United States. There is reason for the concern.

quote:

An outspoken street preacher is appealing to the Oklahoma Supreme Court after he was slapped with a five-year restraining order that his attorneys say threatens him with jail time if he violates the order by speaking out in opposition against a local LGBTQ advocacy group.

Rich Penkoski, a pastor who heads up the online organization Warriors for Christ and has protested drag shows for children nationwide, told Fox News Digital that he believes the restraining order is unconstitutional and could herald a legal precedent that could chill the speech of Christians and others.

"I've been preaching against this kind of stuff for years when it first started in libraries," he said of drag queen story time for children. "We've been telling people it's going to get worse if we don't do anything, and that's where we are."

quote:

Penkoski said he was invited by a church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to preach outside a local Pride event last fall after other local churches failed to speak out against it.

Penkoski also posted a public photo of the same-sex wedding of Sheena Hayes and Morgan Lawrence-Hayes, who is the executive board president of the Bartlesville chapter of Oklahomans for Equality, according to court documents reported by the Christian Post.

In his post, Penkoski referenced Bible verses condemning homosexuality, including Romans 1:32 – "and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same but also give hearty approval to those who practice them."

The pastor also cited Matthew 18:6, which quotes Jesus saying that "whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."

In a police report filed by an officer with ties to Oklahomans for Equality in Bartlesville, the couple felt directly threatened and harassed by Penkoski's social media posts and sought a restraining order, according to local outlet V1SUT. The report claimed he made references to bestiality during a sermon at the Pride event, which he denies.

In February, Washington County District Court Judge Linda Thomas granted the couple a five-year protective order against Penkoski after they claimed they felt unsafe in Bartlesville because of the pastor, according to the Rutherford Institute.

Social media posts and opinions are now threatening.

Headlong into the Marxist abyss.

That speech is pointed at a specific couple and is bordering on threats. Who knows what fanatic might take him literally. That's the couple's fear.

You left this part out of your quote:

quote:

The judge ruled that Penkoski "in a knowing and willful manner, conducted a pattern of conduct which a reasonable person would believe to be harassment and would therefore suffer substantial emotional distress. And it has actually caused substantial emotion distress to the plaintiffs in this case," according to court documents. The judge further ruled that the preacher does not have a constitutional right to repeatedly single out the couple

Acceptance of any lifestyle choice isnt love. Godly love also includes the justice of Christ and rejection of all sin. He aint comin back the second time as a servant but as a warrior and as God Almighty who He is

Is this preacher the definitive authority on what is true? Scripture has been interpreted thousands of ways. Is his interpretation the correct interpretation?

Certainly not by intent.

Where does that argument end on say YouTube for example, and when is it deemed threatening and when is it not to speak to an individual or individuals? Is it just when a person quotes Jesus or Paul out the Bible, or does it also pertain to just speaking out in general in opposition to an individual or individuals?

Slippery slope is slippery to be sure.

Yes. But he's badgering these people and making subtle threats with the verses he chose crosses a line from speech to harrassment. That's where he's wrong.Who wants someone constantly in your proximity yelling about your sin? Who wants that person to use quotes that suggest you should die because of that sin? Nobody in this thread, yet they won't acknowledge that because it's not happening to them.

Sure if you point at a person and then make statements suggesting they should die or would be better off dead. When hasn't that been harassment?

No, but the Bible is the authority, and the reason it has an impact to people who claim they don’t believe in it is because they obviously DO believe, and so it affects them. They just don’t want to hear it.

There is no interpretative issue with plain speech. It says exactly what it says. You just choose to believe it or you don’t, and if you say you don’t, then why would that ever be an issue for you, but besides all that. This is a very dangerous precedent we are setting when it comes to squashing free speech, and no matter if you adhere to scripture or not, this affect you greatly. Don’t worry, ignore it, and it will soon be your turn.

Those street preachers are the worst. They do a horrible job of representing Christ, and Christianity as a whole.

Furthermore, from the looks of the article, this preacher wasn't threatened with jail time for preaching. But rather he was given a restraining order after constantly personally harassing a couple.
