I almost forgot how these threads bring out the I’m going to a specific location at a specific time in 4 days. How will the weather be? Am I screwed?

The 18z EURO looks like it’s sending us the Yucatán’s sloppy seconds. It is definitely sending a weak, disorganized, and elongated center of circulation northward towards extreme southeast LA. It doesn’t go out very far so I can’t tell if it’s going to send it back westward like every other model. It’s also a good bit further East than previous runs.

Is it just me, or is "monsoon gyre" a new buzzword being thrown around? I swear we never heard that term until a year or two ago.

Nah, it’s been around for a while but from my personal tropical weather watching experience, it’s not usually something that affects the western Atlantic/Gulf of Mexico basin much. It’s usually something that affects the Pacific basin on the other side of Central America.

Not sure if it was earlier in this thread or in a different one, but it was discussed. I've never heard of that term.

I mean it's not like Penn State or Coloraso State good, but we get systems from the Bering Sea that are straight up hurricanes like every fall/winter
Tropics arent too far away from some of the dynamic systems we see up North

I have no clue what kind of applied physics program they have, but it's comical that the tropical Tidbits creator studied in Alaska.

Interior Alaska at that.

So technically what is it? Just a low pressure loop of high moisture? And sometimes it crosses into the Caribbean and spawns a storm?

Today I also learned Fairbanks has the same population as New Iberia.
