Anyone familiar with Jackson, Miss? Do they get hammered with hurricanes up there?
Not generally, I grew up there in the 70's and 80's. However, since the 90's a hammering by a hurricane may improve the area.

Jackson gets tornados and lose power for hurricanes.

I am contact with a lot of private meteorologist, there is zero confidence, almost disbelief that they are saying 1 to 2. They are talking more like 3 to 4. Most probably Cat 3, which many models saying high 3 possible 4. The GFS model is shite on intensity. That’s typically the least accurate portion of the model.
Hope for 1/2 and plan for 3/4, or just do nothing and pray a lot

If that thing isn't a major by landfall it would be a miracle.

Some guy yesterday had the best meteorologists in the world that haven't missed a storm in decades saying a Cat 4 right up the a-hole of Lake Charles
Wish my job would let me guess and be wrong as much as meteorologist

Is it just me or don't these hurricanes always seem to hit a little bit father east of what is projected?
I think it’s safe to say at this point the current track won’t be won’t be the actual track but that’s about it.

Well there ya have it. Straight from the horse’ mouth. Private meteorologists saying this forecast is shite, prepare for doomsday folks.

Low shear
I saw yesterday that some shear could come from a system off Mexico, in the eastern Pacific. The high-level winds from that system was shearing off the top of Ida.
Apparently storm forecasters have factored in the shear effect, limiting Ida's development to a H-2. Otherwise, given the record warmth of the waters near Louisiana and East Texas, this could easily explode to a high level M-4 like Laura.

Yeah we had a hotel in Alexandria for Gustav and lost power and just came straight home as soon as it passed.
If it is a bad one, you might not be able to get home anytime soon with roads blocked.

Personal risk in Jackson isn't tied to a hurricane
