Yes they can, know quite a few who lost hours in Laura when whole pine came down on house. But even the top will take out a roof.

Just woke up after being up until 3am watching this thing explode. I’m really thinking about leaving prairieville and just heading west. The interstate looks fine, but is it too late???

Had numerous pine trees snap half way and up during Laura and a few uproot also.

This storm is going to be slightly worse than Laura, wind-wise. Pine trees were twisted apart 20-ish miles east of LC. Entire pine tree populations were LEVELED in places that got the huge gusts. A tree doesn't have to be so large it completely falls into your house to destroy your house. A small tree causing a small rupture in your roof will allow water in that will destroy your house.

Been watching WWL on youtube, they are lacking in field reports so far. Maybe gearing up for the nasty stuff. Any other stations/feeds with better coverage?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but depending on where you are you can probably count on some of those trees coming down. And yes, pines do tend to clip off sometimes but those limbs can still do major roof damage

Even if it doesn’t gain any more strength and it can’t complete a EWRC before landfall, the winds will likely expand from the center. That energy has to go somewhere and it usually expands outward before intensifying again.

Can confirm. Pine tree across the street from my childhood home in MS came down during Georges into our front lawn. The branches punctured holes feet into our lawn. Broke near the base about 6-8 feet up.
