Why are people leaving the north shore to go sit in similar conditions in Natchez or Jackson ?

Both those places could lose power
Natchez lost power for delta last year

Laura was bad all the way up in Monroe and SE ark

Camp on graveyard island did remarkably well in Andrew. Don’t think it had the same punch this one will have. But other areas got demolished.

I live in Maurepas. On the water.

We are staying with friends in Copper Mill.

I went through Katrina 70 miles inland. I pray we don’t see that kind of destruction.

Like many in New Orleans, they're basically hoping it takes a little jog here and there and it misses them. It's stupid but that's what they're doing.

Who remembers Ed Roy, a meteorologist at I think KATC in Lafayette?

Anyway, here are his thoughts on this:

"Conditions are very conducive for further rapid development over the next 36-48 hours and it is very likely that Ida could reach Cat 4 status or beyond.
Start your hurricane prep now if you haven't already and plan to finish your prep bye tomorrow afternoon.
Lafayette Parish along with most of Acadiana is now under a hurricane warning which indicated that you should expect hurricane force winds within 36 hours.
I think that landfall will will be between Intracoastal City and Atachafalaya Bay."

Personally I hope he's wrong as far as location.

@iCyclone (Josh Morgerman) with some trivia:
quote:

Unlucky situation for #Louisiana, which was hit by 3 #hurricanes last year: LAURA, DELTA, & ZETA. But it's not unheard of. Hurricanes often attack same spots across multiple seasons. From 1945 to 1950, Florida had 11 'canes (!!), including 5 Cat 4s! Cold comfort for Louisianans.

Semi serious question… if you are still there my sister could use some help boarding up a big window. She has 3 kids, youngest 5 months and her husband has covid and has zero energy. She refuses to let me go down and help her.

Where at? I left but can put you in contact with someone possibly. I just went move a friend's truck who's offshore?

I'd rather not answer, but they're staying from what I see. They're not taking this seriously, and unfortunately many of them will die.

My dad lives in Schriever, trying to convince him to leave all afternoon. Being hardheaded as of now

I can’t imagine being in Houma or Morgan City right now and staying. Evacuating is a giant pain in the A, but the downside of the alternative is just too severe. This storm is beating the intensity projection at every update.
